The Republic Of Moldova

Moldova officially the Republic of Moldova, is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe bordered
by Romania to the west and Ukraine to the north, east, and south . The capital city is Chișinău.
The official language of Moldova is Romanian.

The state flag of Moldova is a vertical tricolour of blue, yellow, and red, charged with the coat
of arms of Moldova on the center bar. The coat of arms of Moldova consists of a eagle holding
a cross in its beak and a sceptre and an olive branch in its claws. The chest of the eagle is
protected by a shield that bears the traditional arms of Moldavia: an aurochs' head with a star
between its horns. It also contains two lozenges (the ears), a five-petaled flower and a moon in
a crescent phase . According to Gheorghe Vrabie, the author of the coat of arms, the eagle
symbolizes the Latin origin of the people.

Moldova has a total area of 33,843 sq km, and a population of 3,5 million people. The main
rivers from Moldova are Nistru and Prut. Moldova has a climate which is moderately
continental; its proximity to the Black Sea leads to the climate being mildly cold in the fall and
winter and relatively cool in the spring and summer. The summers are warm and long, with
temperatures averaging about 20 °C (68 °F) and the winters are relatively mild and dry, with
January temperatures averaging −4 °C (25 °F).

The most important cities are Chisinau, Tiraspol, Balti.

Moldova is a parliamentary republic with a president as head of state and a prime minister as
head of government. It is a member state of the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the
World Trade Organization (WTO), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe
(OSCE), the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development, the
Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Organization of the Black Sea Economic
Cooperation (BSEC) and aspires to join the European Union.
