SCRIPT 2019

INTRODUCTION: (Baltej+gayatri)

Baltej : Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen and welcome to Soundwaves

2019, the annual concert, of the Parikrama School of Music. my name is
Baltej

Gayatri : And i am Gayatri. Tonight, we will be your guides through this epic
journey. A journey through time, beginning with when music first took
roots, to today, here, now, where it shapes our lives in unimaginable ways.

Baltej : We have presented you with multiple original pieces over the years.
But this year, we will celebrate music in all its forms across all time
periods, and how it bridged the gap between people from various parts of
the world. The history of music is an interesting one so we won’t take more
of your time and dive right into it!

Classical Prelude in D minor Johann Sebastian Bach: (Baltej+gayatri)

Gayatri : We begin our journey with the classical era. Classical music is
the oldest form of music that we know and it still continues to inspire
musicians today. It is the oldest form of music recorded, with pieces
originating as far back as 500 A.D. The music composed during this period
still poses a challenge to musicians today because of its complexity.

Baltej : Early classical music during the medieval period consisted solely
of vocals, with instrumental music being added during the Renaissance.
During the Baroque period, the style of writing music in a single key with
clear melody lines originated, a practice which has continued to date.

Gayatri : Johann Sebastian Bach was a German composer and musician

of the Baroque Period. He is known for his instrumental compositions) as
well as for vocal music. He has been generally regarded as the greatest
composer of all time. To kick off tonight’s show, we have Aanya Bhatia,
performing Bach’s Prelude in D minor which is also a Grade 6 Trinity
College piano piece
-------------------------------- Aanya’s piano solo (classical prelude in d minor js
bach)

Baltej (Conclusion) : Thank You Aanya, for that amazing performance.

Your flawless rendition of such a challenging piece is a mark of your talent.
The challenging nature, soothing melody and technical difficulty is why
classical music continues to inspire even today.

John Mayer- Everyday I have the Blues (Baltej+gayatri)

Gayatri : From classical, music we move on to the blues era.

Blues originated in the Deep South of the US in 1870 in the slave
plantations where it was sung without music, with roots in traditional
African music. Blues music incorporated field hollers, shouts and chants.
Some songs also incorporate elements of swing.

Baltej : B.B. King, known as the King of Blues, was an American blues
singer, electric guitarist, songwriter, and record producer. King introduced
a sophisticated style of soloing based on fluid string bending and
shimmering vibrato that influenced many later electric blues guitarist.

Gayatri : The next piece, Everyday I Have The Blues by B.B. King, is a
blues song that has been performed in a variety of styles. It became a
blues standard with renditions recorded by numerous artists. The version
being performed today is the one by John Mayer. John Mayer, a
chart-topping artist of today’s generation, has played a major/significant
role in reviving blues. He has proved his prowess over the genre in his
cover of this piece.

Baltej : Performing this piece is Elysian with Arnav, Srijon and Harshil on guitar,
Pratham on the drums, Tanishq on vocals, and Ahaan on
Please give them a huge round of applause.

Conclusion: Thank you, Elysian, for that astounding performance.

Louis Armstrong- What a Wonderful World + Birdland (Baltej+gayatri)

Baltej : Jazz too is drawn from African styles, popularized by

African-American artists particularly in New Orleans. The genre is
characterized by swing and blues notes, call and response vocals, and is
heavily dependent on improvisation. This makes it one of, if not the most
complex form of music, making it possible for only experienced musicians
to perform it.

Gayatri : Despite attempts to distinctly define jazz, it has always remained

an extremely versatile form of music over its more than 100 years of
existence. The influence of jazz has reached far and wide, influencing the
music industry more deeply than we can imagine.

Baltej : Louis Armstrong’s charismatic stage presence, trumpet and vocal

skills made their influence felt on the industry. One of his most popular
pieces, What a Wonderful World, is being performed for you tonight. The
song also has a variety of renditions.

Gayatri : Along with this, we have Birdland, a Jazz Fusion song by the
band Weather Report. It is a tribute to the Jazz legend, Armstrong

So now we welcome Brain Drain, bringing to you two iconic songs from
different Jazz eras. The students have made these songs their own, by
improvising various parts in the true spirit of the genre. Performing this
piece today we have Diya singing, Pranay on the guitar, Aaryan on the
keyboard, Vivaan playing the drums.

Gayatri (Conclusion): Thank You Brain Drain for that melodious

performance.

Elvis Presley- Falling in Love (Baltej+gayatri)

Gayatri : Transitioning from the era of slow-moving, calming music, we

come to a time of energy and excitement, we come to the time of rock and
roll. Originating in the 1940s, this form of music was influenced by gospel,
jump blues, jazz, boogie-woogie, rhythm blues and country music as well.

Baltej : Emerging technologies such as amplifiers, mics, electric guitars

and better records gave rock and roll its strong and heavy character. Many
independent recording studios came up and radio stations started playing
their songs. Many bands brought about their own variations to this wildly
diverse style of music, changing the way people thought about music
forever.

Gayatri : Elvis Presley, the "King of Rock and Roll", is regarded as one of
the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century. Whilst revolutionizing
the music industry, the outfits Presley wore became famous too. His music
influenced his style, and style held a strong influence on music. The
energy he brought to the stage was unparalleled.

Baltej : ‘Can’t help falling in Love’ is one of his most beloved love songs.
Tonight, we have the band Spidey Boys with Vivaan, Veer, Shreyaan,
Pratham, Soham and Adrit all on Vocals performing this piece as a tribute to
their loving mothers.

Baltej (Conclusion): Thank you to Spidey Boys for your melodious

performance. It is safe to say, that Elvis has left the Building.

Conclusion: Elvis has left the Building.

(Gayatri) We would now like to welcome Baltej Miglani to talk about what it is
like being a PSM student. Baltej appeared for his grade 6 exam in
December 2018 and has been a part of PSM since 2015. He started off as
an eager young boy who loved being on stage and has shown significant
growth as a musician who has honed his talent. His dedication towards the
school has been seen on numerous occasions and he will always remain
an integral part of the school. I now invite him on stage to share his
experiences with the you.

BALTEJ SPEECH

The Beatles- Hey Jude (Baltej+gayatri)

Gayatri : The British Invasion in music started in the 1960s, with the
immense popularity of American bands, influencing groups in Britain to
produce their own music. Blues music was greatly influential during this
period and provided the roots for the growth of British music.

Baltej : Youth groups started to combine British and American styles of

music to create their own amalgamation. These styles were increasingly
popular and gained worldwide attention. Popular bands of the era like The
Beatles, The Kinks and The Rolling Stones gained international
recognition due to their revolutionary music. In fact, the Beatles is
considered the most popular band of all time, with a fan frenzy called
Beatlemania breaking out in the 1960’s.

Gayatri : The ballad, Hey Jude, evolved from "Hey Jules", a song
McCartney wrote to comfort John Lennon's son, Julian. “Hey Jude” is the
Beatles at the top of their game. It’s a song that instantly conjures massive
singalongs, one that echoes down through history.
Presenting this song is Spectrum, with Preksha and Aishanya on the
guitar, Sanaa and Meher as the vocalists, Kashvi on the drums, Tvisha on
the guitar and vocals and Arjun on the keyboard.

Gayatri (Conclusion) : Thank you Spectrum for that melodious

Our next band is a favourite of many. Queen was an 80s versatile and
experimental band. We would be performing 2 songs of theirs live tonight.

First, we have Jonathon on the drums playing a song loved by all. He is only

Queen- Bohemian Rhapsody (Karan+Yash)

Next we have the song, bohemian rhapsody, which is a take on the

1970s progressive rock genre.
Freddie Mercury, their lead singer, wrote this song for their 1975 album ‘A
night at the Opera’. He was regarded as one of the greatest lead singers in
the history of rock music, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona
and four-octave vocal range. He was British, but his parents were from
Gujarat, India.
Bohemian Rhapsody is a very special song. It is a 6-minute song consisting of
several sections, an intro, a ballad segment, an operatic passage, a hard
rock part and a reflective coda. Surprisingly, it has no chorus!
It became Queen’s most popular song and is considered one of the greatest
rock songs of all time. This song is considered one of the key moments in
rock music history.
It is one of the most difficult songs to perform on stage. Queen themselves
never performed the entire song live on stage. The students at Parikrama
have worked for over 2 months to perform this before you today. Some of
their practice sessions lasted over 6 hours at a time. I’m glad I wasn’t part
of this choir.
So, now we have the PSM Choir consisting of

Alto: Tvisha, Kashvi, Reva, Nadia, Avni, Madhulika.

puts his heart and soul into whatever he does. He joined in 2013 as a shy
ten-year-old, but even at that tender age, he showed great promise. Over
the years he has developed his prowess over the drumset. He has
completed his Grade 8 in drums and is extremely friendly , outgoing and
humorous, making band practices with him a joy. He fills the room with

energy as soon as he picks up the sticks, moving us with his beats. We

are proud to present this award to him, an accolade he has earned
through his hard work and talent

AANYA BHATIA INTRO: (Karan)

We are extremely proud and honoured to give the third Karma Khurana Award
for the evening to Aanya Bhatia. Aanya has been a student of PSM for 6
years now. With an exceptional passion to succeed in her instruments,
Aanya has been learning piano for 6 and the drums for 4 years at PSM.
Pursuing 2 instruments is not an easy task, yet Aanya has been doing it
with great flare. She has completed grade 6 in drums and this year will be
giving grade 6 in piano. Let's have a loud applause for Aanya
Bhatiaaaaaaa.

Gayatri Intro (AISHI)

Gayatri brings with her sweet yet power packed vocals, and while she adds a
phenomenal stage presence, she wasn’t always like this. She joined
Parikrama as a shy fourteen year old. But over her four year journey here,
she has developed in more ways than one. She has given four vocals
exams throughout her time here, receiving awards in three of them. She
completed her Grade 8 in December 2018, and her story continues to
inspire people. An extremely helpful and supportive person, Gayatri
continues to inspire people to get over there fear of the stage and
accomplish great things. Gayatri was also the stage manager in
Soundwaves 2018 and she did a great job .We are proud to present to her
this award as a mark of her growth and the journey she has undertaken.

(Karan) Thank you Valentine Sir! Don’t go anywhere.

Guest Song- Tulsa time:

The next song is Tulsa Time by Don Williams which would be performed by
our guests of tonight. We have Anindo Sir on the keyboard, Surojit sir on
drums, Valentine Sir on vocals and guitar and Sonam Sir on the Bass.
Please give them a huge round of applause!

Conclusion: That was my favourite performance of the night! I feel privileged

to get to hear you guys play live. Thank you!

Imagine Dragons- Believer (Aanya + Radhika)

(Bhatia): The world of electronic music lives in continuous change. New idols
appear constantly, renewing and diversifying a scene that is already so
rich, and Imagine Dragons are certainly one of them. Their musical style

has mainly been described as alternative rock, pop rock, indie rock,
electronic rock, pop, and arena rock with some influences of folk, R&B,
hip-hop and EDM.

(Radhika)This song, ‘ Believer’ written by the lead vocalist Dan Reynolds,

gives a message that life’s adversities are what help you become a
believer in yourself.

We now welcome on stage Free Falling Beats. They have Siddhant on the
drums, Risha on vocals, Ayan, Yash and Tanmay on the guitar. Please
give them a big hand.

(Bhatia)Conclusion: That was a killer performance! Thank you, Free Falling

Beats.

Alan Walker- On My Way (Aanya + Radhika)

(Radhika): I’m sure all of you have heard Electronic Dance Music, or EDM
songs. Djs are becoming professional musicians and very popular in
todays times. You go to a bar, or a party, all you hear is electronic music.
We don’t realize this but Djs are slowly taking over the music industry.

(Bhatia): ALAN WALKER is a DJ and a song producer. His latest track, On

my Way focuses on how you no longer want to fight someone else’s battle
& live in their shadow. This has a dreamy, otherworldly sound, but also
manages to be distinctly on-trend.

So please put your hands together for the band named Super Six. We have
Nathan, Diya and Manya on vocals, with Bernice and Ritvik on guitar and
Raghav on the drums.

(Radhika): Conclusion: After this electronic Music one might say that live
music is dying. They’re not wrong. But as we’ve seen in the past, live
music always makes a comeback. So we should never lose hope.

Sia- Titanium (Aanya + Radhika)

(Bhatia): Titanium, produced by Sia and David Guetta, is a pop song, which
draws from the genres of house and urban-dance..

When you think of Sia, it’s hard not to think of her insane voice. Everytime she
sings, her pure and powerful voice rises from the depth of emotion and the
rhythm is always heavy with heart-wrenching intensity. Sia portrays her
powerhouse vocals in this song.

(Radhika): Struggling to project an extroverted persona whilst on stage, Sia’s

unwillingness to be in the spotlight has escalated to the point where she
hides herself behind masks, heavy paint and even a blonde bobbed wig.

However, with the release of this hit single, she displayed a voice that
could not be ignored.

(Bhatia): The song's lyrics are about inner strength, sending us a message to
be strong and not let anyone bring us down. It also features a hint of 80s
flavour.

We now have Tumbling Dice performing the cover of the same. There’s
Surabhi on the vocals and guitar, Bhupinder on the drums, Nadia on the
guitar and vocals, Kartik on the bass guitar, Mitumani on the guitar, shitij
on the guitar and Adhya on the keyboard. Let’s give them a loud round of
applause.

(Radhika): Conclusion: Thank you for that energetic performance guys.

Marshmallow- Happier (Aanya + Radhika)

(Radhika): Marshmello, is an American Electronic music producer and DJ.

His genres include Progressive house and electro house. He is one of the
most famous upcoming DJs in today’s generation and is widely popular
among the teens. He is a self made millionaire DJ whose face is still
unknown as no one knows who is behind the White iconic marshmello
mask.

(Bhatia): This song was written by Bastille's vocalist Dan Smith with Steve
Mac in 2017. It finds Smith in a relationship that has run its course, and he
recognizes the uncomfortable truth that love sometimes involves stepping
away. He saw potential in the song as a collaboration with Marshmello to
add some of his EDM beats.

Performing next is the band 8 Dimensions. So let’s welcome on stage, Daksh

on the Drums, Rishi on the guitar, Myra, Vihaan, Naavdha, Gunin, Ananya
and Nathan on vocals.

(Radhika): Conclusion: that was an amazing performance, thank you 8

dimensions for enlightening us with that track.

Ed Sheeran- Perfect (Aanya + Radhika)

(Bhatia): Ed Sheeran has won the hearts of people all over the world with his
melodic voice. His music is hyper-modern, embodying the way boundaries
between genres continue to collapse, especially in the pop realm. A love of
hip-hop is baked into both Sheeran’s songwriting and vocal delivery, and
he embraces a number of other styles, such as R&B or electric rock.

(Radhika): The song is a romantic ballad written about his girlfriend. Although
Ed Sheeran is currently one of the most popular musicians in the world, his
music is simple and influenced by 80’s ballads.

Performing this we have the band that likes to call themselves Blue
Lasers Shirja Rastogi, Kashvi Rastogi and Ashmita Banerjee on vocals,
Kabir and Samanyu- guitar and Tanay on Drums. Please give them a
huge round of applause.

(Radhika): Conclusion: What a lovely performance! Thank you

Lady Gaga- Shallow (Aanya + Radhika)

(Bhatia): Over the years, we have seen many actors migrating from their
musical careers to the world of theatre. Many of these personalities
include Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley, and new-age celebrities like
Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus. These former musicians have been
known to transcend to acting.
For most of her career, Lady Gaga has been a larger-than-life-size presence,
hiding behind masks and motifs tied to her album releases. The movie “A
Star Is Born” clearly depicts that apart from being a phenomenal singer,
she has what it takes to lead a major movie.

(Radhika): “Shallow” is a strong ballad and a stunning duet featuring striking

harmony between the two vocalists. It comprises of elements of pop, rock,
country and folk. A love song at heart, it is also about communication and
reaching out to humanity.

(Bhatia): Please put your hands together for the last performance of the
evening, by Gayatri, Divij and Yuvraj.
