INTRODUCTION

Interconnected network (Internet) as a source of information plays an important


role in developing one’s mind and life experiences by creating productive works in
school, office or even at home. Nowadays, this can be a person’s most efficient
strategic tool for enabling himself/herself to take change and cope with the fast growing
technology. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, internet is an electronic
communications network that connects computer networks and organizational computer
facilities around the world. Internet is the connection of networks on a large and mostly
global scale.

The facts that people live in informative lifestyle where everything is updated;
internet became one of the necessities of human being regardless of age or sex in
today's society. However, the influence of this useful machine on youths specifically on
students, is undeniably questionable. As to what Rock said, all these technologies are
very good at distracting people. In line with this development, online gaming was
created to give entertainment to people.

Despite of the useful benefits of internet, still, there are some negative effects
that it will give to every one of us. Good aspects include the mental exercise and
training, improvement in recursive and proactive thinking, increase in amiability,
enhanced interpretability, and increase in mental activity. The drawbacks include
increase in emotional arousal, decrease in self-control, response delay, attention
disorder, mindless entrainment, social solitary factor, commercialism, and addiction.

Online gaming is one of the widely used leisure activities by so many people.
Teenagers who are playing these online games said that they are playing these games
just for fun, to keep away from the heat of the sun, without knowing the effects of it.
Playing online games, according to some research is beneficial. It enables the mind of
the player to come up with decisions in tight situation, especially those adventure
games that keeps the player to be alert, active, and strategic. Playing these types of
games makes the player experienced different feelings as if the player is really the one
who taking the challenges.

Student’s learning takes place unexpectedly, but the inappropriate usage of


playing online games also leads in some problems such as being distracted in school. It
is where the attention of the child were divided that even their health and social life is
unknowingly affected. Several studies in psychology have found out that increased time
spent on the computer can lead to negative impact on a person’s capability to
communicate appropriately face-to-face with friends, peers and family including parents.

In line with this, some researcher found out that there is a impendent cognitive
effects on the user including online gaming addiction. By definition, “Addiction is any
compulsive activity or involvement which decreases a person’s ability to deal with other
aspects of his life to a point where the activity or involvement comprises the dominant
source of emotional reinforcement and identity for the person.”

Addictive behaviors are irresistible, repetitive and may even be harmful. Some
examples include gambling, internet use, shopping, online game playing, sexuality, and
eating disorders. Everyone who plays video games has a different reason for playing,
and the usage of the game leads to different effects for each individual. Childhood
upbringings, peer influences, pressures at school and family issues are all factors that
have a strong connection with the effects of gaming on individuals. Video games maybe
therapeutic for some people, but the people who are negatively affected by gaming
impact are many.

Studies revealed that the human body is easy to destruct and one of its reason is
the technology. The education system tend to go with the flow with this constant change
in the society in order to get things relevant to the today’s generation.

The goal of this research is to determine the cognitive implication of online


gaming addiction and how it affects on the behavioral attitude of the students of
Paliparan National High School SY 2018-2019.
