General Condition
General Condition Stitching involves drilling holes on both sides of the crack and
grouting in U-shaped metal units with short legs (staples or stitching dogs) that span the
crack, Stitching may be used when tensile strength must be reestablished across major cracks.
Stitching a crack tends to stiffen the structure, and the stiffening may increase the overall
structural restraint, causing the concrete to crack else-where. Therefore, it may be necessary
to strengthen the adjacent section or sections using technically corrected reinforcing methods.
Because stresses are often concentrated, using this method in conjunction with other methods
may be necessary. (ACI 224-R)
Material Used
Substrate Preparation
- Grind the substrate along the crack to remove loose materials such as paint, putty.
- Cut the crack to get desire width and depth such as 75 mm x 25 mm.
- For rebar stitching (space @ 300 mm c/c), cut the grove line (round about 600 mm)
across the crack line and hole on both side of crack line (Ø20 mm & 50 mm depth).
- Cleaning the substrate to be free form dust and loose particles which can disturb the
bonding.
