Courses Description:

Arch. 701: Research Methods in Architecture (3C.3H)

 Definition of scientific approach in research problems. Review of research design: quantitative
(experimental, quasi experimental and survey) and qualitative (case studies, comparative analysis, field
reconnaissance survey, participant observation, and archival). The review will include all methods of
observation and data collection with the focus on measurements reliability, validity, and data analysis,
interpretation, and inferences.

Arch. 731: Conservation of Historical and Cultural Monuments and Sites (3C.3H)

Analytical review of the history and theory of conservation during the last 200 years and the
evolution of conservation philosophy and practice through time. Formation of a multidimensional
conservation argument. The interdisciplinary nature of conservation and its relation to other fields (e.g. ..
archaeology, anthropology, planning, landscape architecture, and cultural resources management).
Conservation Technology and documentation of historic buildings. Presentation of case studies and
examples of conservation projects from different parts of the world.

Arch. 732: Advanced Studies in Regional Architecture (3C.3H)

It is concerned with the local building traditions, vernacular concepts, and the fundamental
understanding of the buildings in relation to their immediate surroundings as well as its cultural and
social context. It should focus on the development of regional architecture and its contemporary
implications.

Arch. 733: Conservation Technology and Documentation of Historic Buildings and Sites (3C.3H)

The first half of the course deals with conservation technologies related to the diagnosis and
treatment of defects in buildings, building pathology, and conservation of materials (e.g. masonry.
concrete. paint. plaster, metals. class). The second half of the course investigates conducting surveys
and fieldwork. documentation of historic buildings and sites. historical (archival) research. and production
of measured drawings and large format photography, Local, regional and international case studies and
examples are evaluated, critiqued, and researched.

Arch. 734: Advanced Studies in Contemporary Architecture (3C.3H)

This course deals with the development of Architecture after World War 11. It focuses on
treatises. important buildings and settlements; individual architects; architectural movements or schools
of thought that formulate contemporary trends.

Arch. 735: Advanced Studies in History of Islamic Architecture (3C.3H)

The objectives of this course is to study Islamic historical architecture in its cultural. social
economic political and physical context with special emphasis on the building traditions of a period or a
region.

Arch 736: Processes of Heritage Conservation Planning and Management (3C.3H)

This course follows a multi-direction methodology to analyze the relation-ship between heritage
conservation and its related planning and management issues. It focuses on management, planning, and
decision- making for all types of heritage sites from individual buildings, to historic sites and landscape. It
reviews the process of heritage management that includes documentation, assessment, preservation,
listing, nomination, fundraising, interpretation, promotion and development process. This course also
reviews the international / local conventions, charters, laws and tools towards integrating the heritage
protection and management and the local development policies within an overall planning strategies.
Specific case-studies will be analyzed in terms of its conservation policy, interpretation, tourism, and
economic development strategies.

Arch. 741: Urban Design Theory and Methods (3C.3H)

This course examines the elements, concepts and methods of urban design, with emphasis given
to the visual and spatial problems. Emphasis is placed on methods of analyzing urban form, organizational
and structural concepts, human, natural and physical elements of urban design and methods of
implementation.

Arch. 742: Theories and Methods of Housing Design (3C.3H)

Review of theories that impact housing design including urban, socio-cultural and technological
forces, In addition. applications and evaluations of research in the area of housing evaluation of design
efficiency will be assessed. The emphasis will be on the necessity of research in creating better housing
environments.

Arch. 743: Advanced Studies in Urban & Regional Planning (3C.3H)

Quantitative-qualitative & spatial analysis at the urban level to be examined with regards to conception,
historical development, methodology, spatial distribution and socio-economic implications and
requirements of the land used/ transportation process. Student seminars is introduced to take special,
and expanded topics of different planning problems.

Arch: 744 Behavioral Factors in Housing Design (3C.3H)

Review of behavioral. social. and cultural factors in housing design. Discussion and theoretical
analysis of findings and their impact on design processes. The emphasis will be on the understanding of
the local culture and the forces that impact behavioral design for housing in such setting.

Arch. 745: Theory and criticism of Contemporary Urban Design (3C.3H)

The course covers recent urban design theory and criticism, and traces its origins in the
post-war reaction against orthodox modernism. The approach emphasizes the mutual influences between
architectural and urban design theory, and the plurality of values underlying current approaches. The

 .course is widely illustrated with examples of both built and inbuilt projects of varying urban scales

Arch. 746: Urban Morphology (3C.3H)

Concerned with the collective form of urban and suburban environment. ranging from grouping of
buildings to the entire city. This involves analysis of urban patterns and outdoor spaces as well as cultural
and socio-economic context.

Arch. 747: Advanced Studies in Landscape Arch (3C.3H)

Principles and application of landscape perception and design theory. Spaces as natural and built
environment. Effects of inter-related factors on development of design solution such as environmental,
and ecological, cultural tradition and behavioral factors. Historical evolution of human settlements related
to landscape resources. Classification of contexts affecting landscape design in natural & rural settings,
villages, towns and large urban centers, Land use, zoning, circulation systems and methods of site
selection and integration with building forms. Analyses of Jordanian environment, geological formation,
ecological conditions, pollution, visual character and images. Plants types and classification, and life
support... etc.

Arch. 781: Human Behavior in Architecture (3C.3H)

The course covers theories of mental, spatial and social behavior as related to the built
environment. with concentration on issues of perception and cognition. It also includes a survey of
empirical studies on perception cognition, psychophysics, meanings, and environmental imagery.

Arch. 782: Psychology of Architectural Aesthetics (3C.3H)

The course covers the history of psychological studies on aesthetics. It also covers the different
directions of aesthetical studies including information processing theory. semantic and semiotic
approaches and psychobiological aesthetics in architectures. The course deals with both formal and
symbolic aesthetics.

Arch. 790: Seminar (1C.3H)

The course includes submission of research papers by students enrolled in the course linked to
their research topics. Lectures related to the course coordinator are given by the course coordinator and
lectures invited from both inside and outside the department.

‫الجزء الول مُن المُساق يتطرق الى تقنيات الحفاظ المُتعلقة بتشخيص ومُعالجة المُشاكل في المُباني التاريخية‬
‫بالضافة الى مُعالجة مُواد البناء المُختلفة مُثل الحجر‪ ،‬الخرسانة‪ ،‬الطلء‪ ،‬القصارة‪ ،‬الحديد والزجاج‪ .‬الجزء‬
‫الثاني في المُساق يتطرق الى اجراء مُسح مُيداني‪ ،‬توثيق المُباني والمُواقع التاريخية‪ ،‬البحث المُكتبي‪ ،‬واخراج‬
