My name is Katherine Mau and this is my third school year as the

Kindergarten teacher at a private school in Laguna Niguel. I love

working with children and truly love coming to school every day.

Before starting my career, I got my BA in Communications from Cal

State Fullerton where I was on their dance team. After graduating
college, I became a behavioral therapist where I worked with children
with Autism and their families by implementing behavioral plans in
their homes, schools, and communities. During this time, I also took
courses through Cal State University Northridge in communication
disorders and sciences. I am thankful for these experiences and course I
took as I implement many skills and knowledge, I learned during this
time in my classroom now.

After that I decided to go back to school to become a classroom

teacher. I graduated from Pepperdine University with my multiple
subject teaching credential and MA in teaching.

At my current school site, I am a teacher leader by collaborating with

colleagues to create and implement a curriculum in all subject areas to
align with the Common Core Standards. This year the school has
adopted the NGSS standards and I have had the opportunity to help
implement that as well.

After school I coach dance at Mission Viejo High School where I am the
head coach and oversee the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams which has
given me the opportunity to keep my love and dance in my life and has
also helped me grow professionally and has helped enhance my work
related skills to transfer to future job positions.
