Q.No. Marks
1. Consider the Fuzzy sets related to strength of steel: ‘Low’, ‘High’ and ‘Very 05
High’ as below
Strength Low High Very High
4 1 0 0
14 0.8 0.1 0
24 0.5 0.4 0.1
34 0.1 0.8 0.2
44 0 0.9 0.9
54 0 0.9 1
i) Write the Support of each Fuzzy set.
ii) What are the height of each Fuzzy set and mention whether they
are normalized.
iii) Write  - level and strong  - level set of each Fuzzy set where
=0.5 and 0.2.
iv) Find the cardinality of each Fuzzy set.
2. Let A and B are two Type-2 Fuzzy sets defined by A = {(x,  A (x ) }, B 05
= {(x,  B (x ) }, for x=3 (say) find  A  B (x ) where
 A (x ) ={(0.7,1.0), (0.8,0.5), (0.5,0.4)}
 B (x ) = {(1.0,1.0), (0.7,0.5), (0.4,0.3)}
3. Consider two Fuzzy sets 05
A = { (-1,1), (0,0.3), (1,0.4)}, B = { (-1,0.6), (0,0.9), (1,1)}.
By applying extension principle obtain Fuzzy set
C  {( y, C ( y) y  f ( x1, x2 )} where x1  A, x2  B and

f ( x1, x2 )  x12 . x2 2  x1. x2

4. i) Show geometrically a) Fuzzy A  AC  X , b) Fuzzy A  AC   05
ii) IfA = { (2,1), (3,0.4), (4,0.5), (5,0.2)}
B = { (2,0.6), (3,0.7), (4,0.2), (5,0.3)}.
Then show whether De Morgan’s principles hold for the above two Fuzzy
sets A and B .
5. ‘Rainfall depth’ and ‘Rainfall duration’ of a place are represented by two 05

fuzzy sets A and B where A =    , B =  ,
 h1 h2 h3   t1 t2 
where h1, h2 , h3 are for set element ‘Rainfall depth’ in A and t1, t2 , t3 are
for set element ‘Rainfall duration’ in B . Find the relationship R between
‘Rainfall depth’ and ‘Rainfall duration’ by using cartesian product of fuzzy
sets. Next suppose another fuzzy set for ‘Rainfall depth’ is A' =

    . Using i) max-min; ii) max-prod. compositions with the
 h1 h2 h3 
above obtained relation R find the fuzzy set that is associated with the new
‘Rainfall depth’ fuzzy set A ' . [Note : Write down all the steps in getting max-
min and max-prod. compositions].
