The teacher presents a power point presentation of The Valley Fault in Greater Manila ATLAS by
NDRRMC Note: Slides 1 to 31 only

Note: Activities may vary such as the ff:
a. The learners may answer orally and the teacher facilitate the discussions.
b. The learners may write on the board their answers and let them explain later.
c. The class can be grouped into five and be given meta cards, pentel pen and manila paper for
them to write answers and let them discuss their answers for five minutes. Then, let the
leader of each group present in front.

earthquake) ref. Disaster Management and Informative Guide to Managing and surviving Disasters p.

DISCUSSIONS:
1. What have you noticed in the reminder of PHILVOLCS?
2. How long have you known them?
3. Can you say that if earthquake strikes, you are ready for it?
1. The teacher divides the lass into five groups and assign each group to come up with their own
plan in preparation for THE BIG ONE. The students should be reminded that their plans should
be based on actual classroom or school situations.
2. After eight minutes, each group will present and simulate their outputs. (5 minutes will be given
for each group.
The teacher may ask the following questions to the students:
1. What is the unexpected event that happened to our country nowadays?
(Elicit more information from the students.)
Answers may vary.
2. Present some video clips of the effects of earthquake and volcanic eruption to the learners.
(Focus the video clips on the aftermath effect)
3. After watching the video, can you tell how prepare are you if in case the BIG ONE strike in
Metro Manila?
The teacher presents to the class the reminders of PHILVOLCS on what to do after the earthquake.
(Reference: Disaster Management and Informative Guide to Managing and surviving Disasters p. 53.

Having the same five groups earlier, the teacher assigns the following tasks:
Group 1: What are the qualities of students should possess when earthquake happened?
Group 2: If earthquake strike and you are in school, what should you do after the earthquake?
Group 3: What if you are at home, and earthquake strikes. What actions should you do after the
incident?
Group 4: What are the needed things you must have which you can use after an earthquake strikes?
Explain why do you think that these are the important things that you need.
Group 5: In case, you have seen some students wounded or having difficulty breathing, would you
extend help and how are you going to that?
The teacher asks the following questions. to the students.
1. What are the important matters that you have learned from our lesson today?
2. What is the importance of knowing the earthquake preparedness before, during and after the
earthquake?
The students will be asked to come up with their individual plan on Earthquake Preparedness before,
during and after an earthquake. Remind the students that they should consider the situations at home, in
school or outside.
Ask the students to assess their situation at home and determine the things that their parents should do
in order to prepare for the BIG ONE.
