What’s going on C O M M I T T E E U P D A T E S
It has been already a month since our committees been formed. Let’s see how they’re doing.
Also, it’s not too late to join any committee. Don’t be shy and get involve. If you would like to join any commit-
tee then email the committee Chair. Please provide them your name, phone number, email, grade and posi-
tion (vice chair, secretary, or member).
fundraising committee
The fund raising committee plays a huge role in Key Club. Imagine no fundraisers. Our expenses to go to RTC,
DCON and etc. will cost a lot more! But in order for us to have successful fund raisers.. my committee and I will
need a lot of help! The committee is real fun and you will learn a lot about organizing and etc. My committee
is still in need of both a vice chair and a secretary. Who ever is interested please email me at treasurekris-
tina@gmail.com with your name and contact info. and I will give you more info about applying for vice chair
and secretary if you want to apply. We've been planning and working hard for our upcoming carwash on Au-
gust 01, 2010. Because DCON will be in Anaheim this year, It will cost a lot of money, therefore we plan on do-
ing many many successful fund-raisers. Join us! :)
publicity committee
The Publicity Committee is bustling with two major projects, Freshmen Orientation\Rally and Carwash Poster-
Making! For the past couple of weeks, we have attended meetings with the principal, Independence's newest
freshmen advisory program Gear-Up, and several other campus clubs to collaborate on organizing the orien-
tation and rally. We need 100 volunteers total, and our committee goal is to provide a minimum of at least 35
volunteers! At the rally, the committee will be advertising Key Club to the Class of '14. Poster-making is also un-
derway for the upcoming car wash. The positions of committee vice chair and secretary are still open for any
bold and organized ;]. Key Clubbers to run for!
scrapbooking committee
Taking pictures during events is the only thing we’ve been doing for the entire month. The production of the
scrapbook is on hold because of lack of photographs. Also, there has been several applicants for vice chair
and secretary; however, none has been appointed. I am waiting for school to start appointing my vice chair
and secretary because it allows a fair game for those who haven’t heard about the committees. If you are in-
terested in becoming a member, then please email at lisatran2010@gmail.com with your contact information.
Last but not least, the scrapbooking committee is held by a HISTORIAN; however, this position is yet to be filled
by one of you Key Clubbers.
spirit committee
Hey key clubbers, HOW DO YOU FEEL? For those interested, there are vacant spots for both vice chair and sec-
retary. Our committee haven't done much yet, but in the future we will be meeting more and eventually plan
spirit gear for events such as d-con, frn, and rtc. If you are interested in fun, spirit, and joining, please email me
at calvinxluu@yahoo.com with your contact information, thanks.

“To build my home, school, and community,” is what Independence’s Key
Club is doing this summer. IHS’s Key Club is making a local impact by lead-
ing, serving, and presenting in two projects: Chinese Moon Festival and

SPLASH AND DASH AQUATHON
On a sunny day along with free food and free t-shirts/bags?! On Thursday,
July 1, the Splash and Dash Aquathon held at the Cupertino Reservoir was
where all this happened! Hundreds of athletes swam and ran for their life,
swimming in the nice cool water and running in the fresh air right after they
got out, everyone had the same goal....to the finish line. The 7 volunteers of
Independence Key Club helped out in the friendly atmosphere where every-
one there all loved to exercise and were promoting to be healthy. This event
reminded us, Key Clubbers, that we also need to continue promoting our

SACRED HEARTS
How do you help needy families? At Sacred Hearts, KEY Club helped fill pa-
per bags with food. Our small production line prepared plenty of bags filled
with food that will go to all the needy families that come to Sacred Hearts.
Later, we helped clean up and unloaded donated bread. It's nice knowing
that we helped feed families who really need it. That's Key Club for you, help-

METRO TRIATHLON
Beginning with a cooling swim in the waters of Lake Almaden Park, then a
relaxing bike ride through Almaden Valley into Morgan Hill and back, and
finally, a smooth run on the bike paths in and around the park. That was what
the Metro Triathlon consisted of on Sunday, July 18. 14 Key Clubbers woke up
bright and early at 6am to volunteer their time and effort on this hot day, ei-
ther by helping direct the runners on the course or handing out water to
them. Free goodies and lunch was nice, but what really touched our hearts
was the appreciation we received from the participants. Though they were
exhausted from their journey through water and land, each one gave us a
smile and expressed their thanks, and that's what means the most in Key
Club. Kiet handing water to a runner.

INNVISION
Volunteers from IHS and Santa Teresa key Club collaborate in this event to
help cook and serve for homeless people. Mr. Fukasawa, one of the Kiwanis,
assisted us in the kitchen. There were about 10 volunteers who cooked por-
chop, vegetable soup, pasta, and salad for 70 residents of Julian Street Inn.
In addition to that, we made 160 meals for Montgomery Street Inn since
there was no volunteers in that branch. The cook was glad that we were
there to help. The Julian Street Inn event would be an every two month
event. It was nice seeing people smile as we served them the food. A "thank
you" from them made the volunteers feel good inside.
