CORRELATION OF MOTHER’S KNOWLEDGE ABOUT EARLY

BREASTFEEDING INITIATION WITH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF

EARLY BREASTFEEDING INITIATION IN DESA KEPENUHAN TENGAH

ABSTRACT

Background: Based on the results of Basic Health Research (2014), the

percentage of implementation of early breastfeeding initiation (IMD) in Indonesia
was 34.5%. This figure was low compared to other developing countries. IMD
failure was caused by several factors, one of which was the lack of mother's
knowledge of the importance of IMD. For that required exposure of good
information so that mother knowledge about IMD also adequate and IMD can be
implemented. Desa Kepenuhan Tengah, Subdistrict Kepenuhan has some midwife
practices that the majority of pregnant women in the village did midwives in
midwife practice that was midwife practice Yulistiowati and midwife Zaires
Daniati. The post partum mother in Desa Kepenuhan Tengah has a low level of
knowledge about IMD and low information about IMD.
Objective: To know the relationship of mother's knowledge about Early
Breastfeeding Initiation with the implementation of Early Breastfeeding Initiation
in Desa Kepenuhan Tengah , Subdistrict Kepenuhan.
Method: The research conducted using analytical observation method with cross
sectional alignment. The sampling technique in this research was the total
sampling that was 30 respondents, the measuring tool used was the questionnaire
which has been filled by the midwife and the post partum mother who had done
the birth for 2 months before the research, the birth done in midwife practice
Yulis and the practice of Ira midwife in Kepenuhan Subdistrict, Rokan Hulu
District then analyzed univariate and bivariate data with spearman rank test.
Results: The results of this study indicate that the knowledge of mother about
IMD majority was less that 16 respondent (53,3%) and IMD implementation of
majority did IMD that was 17 respondent (56,7%). Correlation test results found
a relationship between mother's knowledge about IMD with IMD implementation.
Conclusion: There was a relationship between mother's knowledge about IMD
and IMD implementation in Desa Kepenuhan Tengah , Kepenuhan Sub-district,
Rokan Hulu District.
