Detailed Lesson Plan

SCIENCE VI

Name: LORELIE S. GELLECANI School: DIGKILAAN CENTRAL SCHOOL

I. Objective
Identify the different uses of heat energy (S6FE-IIID-F-2)

II. Subject Matter

A. Concept
Heat is important to all aspects of mans’ life, especially plants and mammals.
Plant life relies on heat, among other things, to survive as well. Heat is a result of
energy, which can be beneficial as well as dangerous.

B. Materials:
pictures, alcohol lamp, test tube, water (match or lighter to be provided by
the teacher) tongs, mongo plants in can A and B(pre- assigned) polo, flat iron ,
ironing board, activity card

C. References:

D. Process Skills:
Observing, describing, inferring

E. Value Integration
Be careful in handling materials that creates heat.
III. Learning Activities

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Greetings
Good morning Class! Good Morning Ma’am Lorelie.

2. Class Temperature Checking

When you hear me say the word “Hep
Hep” you will say Hooray!

Let’s try it…Hep Hep! Hooray!

3. Review
What was our topic last meeting? Our topic last meeting was all about
potential, kinetic energy and transformation
of energy.

To make sure that you’ve learned our

topic last meeting, I have a questions.

Potential Energy:
1.
1. Gravitational Potential Energy

2.
2. Elastic Potential Energy

Kinetic Energy:
1.

1. Heat Energy

2.

2. Radiant Energy

3.

3. Electrical Energy

4.

4. Mechanical Energy
5.
5. Sound Energy

4. Drill
(Passing A Ball) (5 mins.)
The teacher is going to play music Actively engage in the game
while the pupils are passing a ball.
When the music stops, the pupil who
holds the ball will get pictures inside
the box. Tell what do the objects in the
pictures give us and how do we use it?

Flat Iron – it gives heat through ironing

clothes.

Microwave Oven – it helps create heat and

cook our food

Stove – it gives us heat and help cook food.

Candle

Alcohol Lamp

Sun

Questions:
1. Tell something about the video clip
you watched
2. What are the different sources of heat?
3. How can you apply heat in our daily
life?

6. Unlocking of Difficulties
Class lets unlock some terms for you to
learn better during our discussion.

1. ACTIVITY
Group the class in 4. Let the pupils perform
activities assigned to their group (written in
activity card)

Group 1
What you need:
Alcohol lamp
Test tube
Tongs
(Match or lighter- provided by the
teacher)
What to do:
- Put small amount of water in the test
tube
- Light up an alcohol lamp
- Hold the test tube by using tongs and put
it on lighted alcohol lamp for 3 minutes.
Answer the following questions;
- 1. What was produced by alcohol lamp?
- 2. After 3 minutes, what happen to water
inside test tube? Why?
- 3. Where do we use hot water?
- 4. Is heat important to our daily life?
How?

Group II
What you need:
1 blouse or polo
Flat iron
Ironing board/table
What to do:
- Plug in the flat iron
- Turn it on and select the proper
temperature for the blouse/polo
- After 1 minute, press the blouse with flat
iron from collar up to the whole part.
Answer the following questions;
1. Compare the appearance of blouse
before and after you press it.
2. What is being applied to blouse?
3. What energy was applied to your
blouse?
4. Is heat important? How?

Group III

What you need : (advance planting before the

lesson)
Two cans of mongo plants one labelled A
which grew under the heat of the sun, and
the other labelled B grew inside the room
particularly in the dark area or without
presence of heat

What to do:
1. Examine the color of leaves in plant A
and B
2. Do they have the same color?
3. Tell something about their height or
size. Which among the two cans grew
faster? Why do you think is the
reason?
4. Which among the two cans will bear
more mongo? Why?
5. Can you tell what kind of energy was
needed by plants in order to grow?

Group IV

What you need:

1 pillow
What to do:
Bring your pillow and go outside the
room. Place the pillow under the
heat of the sun for 10 to 15 minutes (pre-
assigned/may do this before the actual
time)
Touch the top of pillow. How do you feel?
Why?
. Suppose there’s an insect on top of the
pillow, will it stay there for 10 to 15
minutes? why?
Do you think heat of the sun change foul
odor of our beddings?
What word best describe about what heat
of sun can do to our beddings?
2. ANALYSIS

Let learners explain their output by

group.

Group 1 – Using Alcohol Lamp

Group 2 – Using a flat iron
Group 3 – Using monggo plants
Group 4 – Using the pillow

3. ABSTRACTION

How did you find the activity?

What did you do to come up with your
answer?
What kind of energy they produce?
What are the uses of heat energy?
Are these materials/objects useful to our
everyday life? How? and prove your answer.
Valuing
How do we handle materials that produces
heat to avoid untoward incidences?

Generalization
What have you learned in our Science lesson
today? We learn about the different uses of heat
energy.

In our activity what is the most important

that you should remember always? Be careful in handling materials that
creates heat.

4. APPLICATION

Is heat important in our daily life?

How will you describe the uses of heat
energy ?
Based on our observation, in what way do
heat energy transform into other energy?

During Christmas season, the climate is

cool that’s why there is a resistance for you
to take a bath. What is the best way for you
to have warm water in taking a bath without
using stove at the same time you are helping
your parents in saving LPG or electricity?

In the morning what kind of water you

pour in your cup to have some milk or
coffee? What material or object found in
your home to have it? How do you feel after
drinking milk or coffee?

After you run or jogged for 5 to 10

minutes, how do you feel? What kind of
energy is that?
Note: (optional)

5. GENERALIZATION
What is the importance of heat?
Heat is very important especially in our
daily lives, also in plant and animals
because everything here on earth relies on
heat in order to survive.

IV. Evaluation

Direction: Match the objects listed in column A that best describe in column B. Write your answer on
the space provided in each number

A B

1. sun A. after you washed clothes in washing

machine, this is the last step to keep it warm and easy
to dry
2. microwave B. keeps our food warm instantly
3. stove C. when you put bread here it becomes
moisture that makes bread crispy
4. toaster
D. radiates heat to warm us up on the
planet earth
5. spinner E. creates heat and cook our food

V. Assignment

Make a journal about the uses of heat energy in our daily life and how to handle those
materials that produces heat
