Study” was first published in Alisdair I. C. Heron (ed.), The Forgotten Trinity:
A Selection of Papers Presented to the BCC Study Commission on Trinitarian
Doctrine Today (London: British Council of Churches, 1991).
“The Being of God and the Being of Man: An Essay in Theological Dialogue”
appeared first in Greek in Synaxis 37 (1991), and was then published in
the present English version (translation by Elizabeth Theokritoff ) in the volume
Synaxis, vol. 1 (Montreal: Alexander Press, 2006).
“One Single Source: An Orthodox Response to the Clarification on the
Filioque” is published for the first time in the present volume.

Part Two
“The Church as Communion” was the keynote lecture at the World Council
of Churches Fifth World Conference on Faith and Order, Santiago de Compostela,
Spain, August 3–14, 1993. It was first published in St. Vladimir’s Theological
Quarterly, Vol. 38 (1994).
“Ecclesiological Presuppositions of the Holy Eucharist” was first published
in Nicolaus 10 (1982). (A paper based on a lecture given at the Ecumenical Institute
“S. Nicola” in Bari, Italy, on May 5, 1982.)
“The Pneumatological Dimension of the Church,” wa translated by W.
J. O’Hara. This article first appeared in International Catholic Review, Vol. II,
No. 2 (1973), the forerunner of Communio.
“Some Reflections on Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist” was first
published in Sobornost 5 (1969). The paper was prepared for the Study Commission
on Worship of the Commission on Faith and Order of the World Council
of Churches and published by their permission.
“Symbolism and Realism in Orthodox Worship” appeared first in Greek
in Synaxis 71 (1999), and was then published in the present English version
(translation by Elizabeth Theokritoff ) in Sourozh 79 (2000).
“The Theological Problem of Reception” was a lecture delivered at the
Centro Pro Unione on April 2, 1984. It was first published in One in Christ 21
(1985).

“Eschatology and History” was first published in T. Weiser (ed.), Cultures


in Dialogue: Documents from a Symposium in Honour of Philip A. Potter (Geneva:
World Council of Churches, 1985).

the 1986 Chevetogne Colloquium on “The Mystery of the Church as a Possible

first in French in lrenikon 3 (1987). The English original was first published in
One in Christ 25 (1988).

Day (a Greek holiday in honor of that profession). It was first published in
Greek in the journal Euthyni 134 (1998). It is published for the first time in
English in the present volume.
