 Ashapura Minechem is the flagship company of the Ashapura Group and well
known as India’s largest mine owner & exporter of Bauxite & bentonite.
 The group has mining & mineral processing facilities in Gujarat & Maharashtra.
 Bauxite mines of the company are located in Bhatia Kalyanpur taluka and Kuchchh
region in Gujarat & Dapoli & Shrivardhan in Maharashtra.
 The group is producer of high grade & low grade bauxite, High Grade is used for own
captive plant situated at Khambhaliya & Porbandar whereas Low Grade supply to
cement industries & export to Mid east country.
Occurrence of Bauxite & Features:

Bauxite found in different part of India & basalt is parent rock of bauxite deposits:-

1. Surguja, Phutkapahar, Maikala ranges in Chhattisgarh.

2. Amarkantak, Malwa plateau deposits in Madhya pradesh.
3. Kutch Peninsula, Mewasa-Virpur, Jamnagar district of Gujarat.
4. Kolaba, Ratnagiri, udgiri, Dhangarwadi and Kolhapur district in Maharastra.

Bauxite Deposits Positive Features Negative Features

Gujarat Fairly high alumina, low Small scattered pocket
silica, low organic carbon & deposits, mixed gibbsitic-
low moisture content. boehmitic hard bauxite
with significant CAO and
sulphur content at place
Maharashtra Fairly high alumina, low Small scattered with
silica, predominantly forest cover.
gibbsite bauxite with low
level of impurities.
Recovery of High Grade Bauxite is 5 to 10 % of ROM where as 90 to 95
% are Low Grade. High Grade bauxite are not found in all Mining Leases.

Mineralogy of Bauxite

Bauxite consists chiefly of hydrated aluminium oxide, namely, gibbsitic, boehmitic, diaspore with
impurities of iron hydroxide minerals and titanium oxide. Silica in bauxite is mainly found in the
form of kaolinite and quartz.
The major chemical constituents i.e. Al2O3, Fe2O3, SiO2 & Cao.
Bauxite is an essential ore of alumina extraction which is one of the most important non-ferrous
metals used in the modern aluminum industry.

Type of Bauxite: Metallurgical Grading of Bauxite

A. Gibbsitic Bauxite (GB) - Low Temperature Alumina Refinery

B. Boehmitic Bauxite (BB) - High Temperature Alumina Refinery

C. Diaspric Bauxite (DB) - Special HighTemperature Alumina Refinery

Threshold Value of minerals

 Threshold Value of minerals "means limit prescribed by the Indian Bureau of Mines from
time to time based on the beneficability and or marketability of a mineral for a given region
and a given time, below which a mineral obtained after mining can be discarded as waste.
As per previous IBM notification Threshold Values:

Conclusion
As per notification of Ministry of Mines, dated 16/10/2009, threshold value of bauxite :- Al2O3
is 30% (Min) & Reactive Silica 5 % (Max). Based on our past experience with consideration of
market need, the bauxite having less than 38 % alumina (Al2O3) are not having demand in
market. We utilized the raw bauxite having alumina content 35 to 37 % by blending with little
bit good quality and upgrade composite quality upto 38 %.
We presumed that in future the demand of Bauxite in Domestic as well as Export may go up to
30%. So, the TH value, we proposed should be 30% Al2O3 & reactive Silica 5% Max.
