Systemic Functional Linguistics TUGAS
The way in which the findings of the SFL complement current ICC methodologies could also
prove to be its limitation. Although it spreads as a method of study, SFL is a particular school of
grammar studies that focuses on the paradigmatic axis of grammar and, in that sense, remains in the
hands of a relatively small group of interested scholars. Both the SFL and the ICC as research fields
can benefit from the theoretical and practical perspectives of cross-pollination in future research
directions. In conjunction with Eggins (1994), SFL offers an introduction to the basic principles of the
structural approach, outlining the general approach to discussion and text analysis. The two main
advantages offered by SFL in the analysis of text (written or spoken) are that I it offers an integrated,
comprehensive and systematic language model that enables language patterns to be described and
quantified at different levels and in different degrees of detail; and (ii) it promotes links between
language and social life so that texts can be seen as reflective of soccer. To this extent, it is hoped
that this study will inspire new directions in future cross-cultural communication and cross-cultural
management research. In the era of large data analytics and access to text-based Internet data
across different cultural contexts, a specific field of research could be quantitative textual analysis
(QTA) applied to the findings of ICC studies to which SFL could provide a framework for data
management. The benefit of using QTA approaches that SFL can be assumed to endorse and can be
further researched is that it aligns itself with corpus-driven findings, with the ability to move results
from descriptive (which is what is seen in this study) to predictive.
