Water Usage:

We, in the civilized, urbanized world, uses water more than we think, while taking it for granted.
For example, I tracked my water usage for a week, and I realized that I used more water than I
think. Firstly, I drink approximately 1. 5 - 1. 75 L a day to drink, and spent a five liter bucket a
day for bathing once per day. Most Indonesians, though, bathe twice a day - I don't. I also did my
laundry myself in the boarding house, and this week, I do my laundry twice. Each time I wash
my clothes, I require ten liters (the 5-liter bucket, refilled twice) for the complete procedure.
Washing also counts - I wash my hands & face twice a day, each probably spending 0. 3 liter of
water. In Islam, there's a 5-times-a-day prayer each day, and if you're going to do that, there's a
mandatory cleaning called wudhu. Essentially washing your feet, face, hair, mouth & hands, it
requires a liter of water per procedure.

These days, I didn't cook nor wash my bike - but I would bet that those who do will use more
water. Also, going to bathroom for bodily waste removal needs water. It costs 1 liter per day, but
every defecation, (which I did twice this week) needs 3. 5 liters. For all of these water needs, I
spent 117. 45 liters of water in total per week. Some will use more water for their different
purposes. Most of these water were usually obtained from springs, lakes, rainwater, rivers, and
so on, in the mainland. Despite the Earth being 70% water, most water on Earth are unusable
seawater. Looking at the water crisis & shortages currently arising in many parts of the world,
yes, we do take clean water for granted. From this small experiments, I think the world needs to
rethink, of how they can provide water to everyone.
