REACTION MEMOS

You will be required to submit a reaction memo where you will reflect upon and react to
assigned course articles using organizational theory concepts. I would like you
to write your memo about one of the assigned articles, in a particular assigned week, that we will
be discussing in an upcoming class. This is independent work on your part.

I will assign the class number that you will choose an article from. I will post the week you are
responsible for on the Moodle course site. It is your responsibility to know which week you
are responsible for. If that week does not work for you, talk with your colleagues and see if they
are willing to switch with you, then notify me in writing of this change. I do not accept late
assignments; if you do not submit your reaction memo on Moodle before class start, on the
week your reaction memo is due, you will get a mark of zero (0).

What I want to see for all Reaction Memos:

1. how you apply the concepts from the organizational theories we cover in the book and
in the classroom to the chosen article; and,
2. your personal thoughts, framed within your organizational experiences, on the article.
Emphasis must be on your understanding of the concepts from the book and from class,
and how you relate these concepts to your chosen article and to your organizational
experiences.

You could write your reactions to the readings as answers to questions, in essay type
format, such as:
 What are the key insights and/or managerial principles from the readings?
 How do you apply the key insights from the readings to things outside of class?
 Do you agree/disagree with the authors? And, most importantly, why?
 How do the readings complement or contradict a reading from a previous class?
 Have you been in a situation where you could have benefited from information in
the reading?

Please DO NOT SUMMARIZE the article. I’ve read the article, I know what it’s
about. I also do NOT want to see “I liked this article because…”.
