PLANT LOCATION & PLANT LAYOUT

AIM :
 Plant layout gives the physical arrangement of industrial facilities.

 Selection of plant location vary about industries and with changing technical and economic
condition's depending on market location, labour supply, foreign operations, land cost, noise
pollution.

PROCEDURE:
 The reason taken into account for selecting the location by the firm/Organization is to be noted
down, like the following:-

 Availability of cheaper land and to build and expand the plant


 Lesser construction and cost
 Facilities for keep up and maintenance
 Facilities for transport in getting and dispatching goods and material
 Facilities for housing of the workers and their transportation to site of work
 Cost of laying water supply, providing sewage and disposal work
 Costly of installing of electricity gas and other facilities
 Minimum government restrictions
 If any other reasons

 1Plant layout includes the spaces needed for material movement, storage, indirect laborites and
other supporting activities or services as well as operating system and personnel.

 Steps will include

iii. Equipment used
iv. General material and handling plant
v. Sketch the plan
vi. General flow pattern
vii. Individual work stations
viii. Space for storage used
ix. Service areas

 Plant layout prepared should follow the sequence of operations and material flow from one stage
to other providing sequential movement and back tracking as far as possible.

 Classify the type of layout as any one or more of the following:-

 Fixed position layout


 Line layout or layout by product
 Layout by process or functional layout

CONCLUSION:-
 Plant location is an important decision that an entrepreneur has to make in the beginning stage.

 Necessary factors in the selection of plant location may vary.
