 UL 268 7TH EDITION HAS
BEEN RELEASED AND AS
OF THE 30TH JUNE 2021,
WILL BE MANDATORY
This 7th Edition has over 250 technical updates,
with 2 of them being major changes.
The 1st major change is the UL 268
Clause 41.1.5 : Cooking Nuisance
Smoke Test. Smoke detectors will be
required to demonstrate increased
resilience to nuisance alarms.
This is because research showed that they:
Create unnecessary business costs
Create unnecessary fire department responses
Cause interruption to the occupants
 In some cases can have negative impacts on occupant
evacuation response
The 2nd major change is the UL 268 41.1.5:
Smouldering Polyurethane Foam Test &
Flaming Polyurethane Foam Test.
This is due to polyurethane being
increasingly more common in modern day
construction, which burns much hotter and
faster than the natural materials which
were used previously. The new flaming
and smouldering polyurethane tests were
added to ensure that newly manufactured
smoke detectors perform adequately and in
a timely manner when installed in modern
building construction environments.
We are proud to introduce a new
addition to the Soteria family.
Soteria UL is our answer to UL 268
7th Edition. Including photoelectric
smoke, multi-criteria and heat
detectors. Built from the foundation of
the Soteria platform – incorporating
Purelight™ sensing technology with
an integrated isolator.
As with the other products in
the Soteria family, Soteria UL is
compatible with Discovery and
CoreProtocol®.
The range has passed all fire tests at
UL’s facilities in Chicago and is now
completing the final phase of testing
in order to gain the approval.
