eclives of cach research group are given below:

Research Groups

A.Animal Breeding

Objectives

I. To create awareness among

planners,Inplementers and masses in general about

the importance and applicati

on of knowledge of animal genetics for permanent

improvement in productivity of dairy Theat animals and poultry.

2.To develop and disseminate knowledge and techniques on how to improve,

through breeding and genetics, the yicid and quality, fertility disease resistance

and lifetime production of dairy/meat animals and poultry in the country.

3.The establishment and utilization of suiiltable operational model for economically

important traits of dairy/meat animals and poultry in order to collect performance

data,estimate genetic parameters,predict breeding values,track genetic and

environmental changes and identify genetically superior animals/birds for use in

breeding programmes.

4.The development and utilization of current knowledge to establish breeding goals

that will enhance the biological efficiency and economic viability of

dairy/meat/poultry production in the country.

5.Research into and development of new and more accurate methods for
performance testing and genetic evaluation of dairy/meat animals and poultry.

B.Molecular Genetics

Objectives

1.Development of bio-technological procedures to enhance/modify genetic architect

of livestock/poultry through genetic manipulation at molecular and cellular level.

2.Phenotypic and genetic characterization of indigenous breeds of livestock and

poultry.

C.Animal Genomics

Objectives

1.Marker assisted selection(MAS)based on DNA finger printing as an early

selection criteria for dairy/meat animals.

2.Identification of QTLs and their potential effects on efficient livestock/ poultry

production in the country.

3.Genomic assisted prediction of breeding values to identify genetically superior

animals/birds for use in breeding programmes.
