IMPACT OF THE OPEN VENTING OF MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE ON
THE PROPERTIES OF THE SOIL IN A MOUNTAIN REGION.

The leachate detected from solid waste detected an impact on soil properties. For the realization of this study, it will taken four landfills located in the open sky in the Himachal Pradesh region are taken specifically in the areas of Solan, Sundernagar, Mandi and Baddi, the total generation of waste from the city is 18 ton / day where it is estimated that The amount of waste per capita from 2011 to 2041 will increase from 0.4 to 0.6 Kg / day. In each of the zones 6 samples are taken at 3 different depths; 0.5 1.0 and 1.5 meters as well as 4 natural or control areas to compare the geotechnical properties measured. These properties are specific gravity, particle size graduation, liquid limit, plastic limit, plasticity index, maximum dry density (MDD), cohesion, internal friction angle and permeability which are used to measure the characteristics of solid waste where The results show that these properties in the four study areas have been severely hampered due to the pollution generated by the open dumping of waste. Solid waste is the type of waste that is most found in landfills in the four areas are organic waste and less proportion of materials such as metals, batteries, glass, for this reason the analysis of data revealed that there are no significant differences in the Properties of contaminated and uncontaminated soil but in turn leachate generate compaction, density, but the concentration of these decreases with depth. The dumping of waste hasn’t generated changes even in the study areas, but if it continues rampant it can cause negative effects on the soil properties.
