Toxication of Technology
Toxication of Technology
Technology is everywhere. It is a tool that certainly changes the world and how it
operates. “ Technology by definition means, the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation
and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society and the environment, drawing
upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science and pure science.” It is a very
fascinating invention of mankind. It made our lives easier; it gives us a lot of possibilities to do
more in our daily lives. But in every greatness in life has its worse sides. Every invention that
mankind has made can be one of the greatest addition in life…but in every invention can have its
side effects in a person’s life. Technology has all sorts of forms; it is seen everywhere in our
generations. We do not write letters anymore, walk or use a bike to get to your destination or to
read books/magazines. That said, we are lazier than are ancestors. Because everything is made
easier and faster, making less effort to do anything.
Everyone has seen the moody, withdrawn kids with music blasting out of his white ear
buds, or the girl rapidly texting on her phone. The youth of today are constantly immersed in
technological advancements that promote nonstop communication and instant gratification,
either through cellphones, gaming systems, laptops or MP3 players. But are these technological
advancements a good thing? You, you and you have experience the wonders of the internet, we
have used the best out of it. But at the same time the worse in it. Imagine a world without
cellphones, personal computers, MP3 players and television. Life without those pieces of
technology would be drastically different. I believe that the growth of technology has negatively
influenced the social interactions of today’s youth because it isolates individuals from reality,
hinders communication and perpetuates the concept of immediate satisfaction.
The biggest disadvantage of technology is that society hasn’t kept up with material
technology. We’ve learn how to keep babies from dying young but social mores haven’t caught
up with the idea that we have to have fewer children and that contraception is preferable to
abortion. We have learned to produce abundant energy but not in ways that can be sustained
without serious damage to the environment. Humans are not planning for the future. We can give
all 7.5 billion people alive now the advantages of a technical society, but we need to stop using
outdated social structures.
There is enough for all, but we have to stop clinging our old ways. Technology gives us
tremendous potential, but the worst thing about it is that people with access to it don’t share the
benefits with people who are not of their group. Technologies worst flaw is the power, it gives
power to an elite; it’s best benefit is the option that people can, by education and honest support,
learn to be citizens of the world. I may be an optimist, but I feel that using technology wisely, we
can eliminate poverty, famine, illiteracy and religious extremism from this planet.
The fact is, it is important for us to learn and understand technology. It became a part of
our daily life to use computers or a cellphones. It is necessary in most situations, especially for
when they are older and have jobs. However, technology use must not be excessive. Extreme
technological use in us can cause all sorts of problems; socially and physically. It is important for
us to understand that yes, technology is an amazing thing; but at the same time, it should not be
used all the time. They should not be overly dependent on it. We, the people of community need
to learn that sometimes, technology is not the right answer for a situation.
