Social Bodies

Myself In My Body: Narrative

In this class we have read and discussed a vast variety of reading, along with a unique

selection of talented writers. They all had something to say, some had very different views and

approaches to specific topics than others. But all of them tied together to one very specific

theme, our bodies and how we associate with them, whether internally, externally, or somatically

and how we display our bodies out in the world. My zine focused on some of the main lessons

the readings really tried to teach and inform the reader. Nancy Kriger talked about how the scars

on our bodies tell the stories of what we have lived through, I took this very literal and associated

mainly with physical scars that are left on the body after trauma, but Kriger also referred to the

internal scars of emotional trauma. Barbara Browning and Lamothe informed us about how the

body’s movements is crucial for human survival. Lastly I took inspiration from Samarsinha and

Dr. Jen Gunter whom explained to me how important it is to take care of our bodies, no matter

what the surrounding circumstances are. Our bodies are more than just bones and flesh, our

bodies are what allow us to feel, to move, and to live.
