Ramendra didn't answer. Kunwar Sahib became somewhat more agitated and said, 'Why do you people forget that all misconduct
arises from compulsion. ? A thief steals not because he particularly enjoys stealing bur only because he is compelled by his
needs . Yes , it can be debated whether his needs are real or imagined. One man may think it necessary to buy his wife a piece
of jewellery when she goes to visit her parents, while another may consider it compeletely unnecessary. One man may lose his
honesty when tormented by hunger while another may die rathr than beg, but you scholars should not forget the law of nature
whereby the desire impels every living being. A man will do anything to stay alive. Misconduct increases or decreases in
proportion to how difficult or easy it is to survive. Our first principle should be to make survival easy for everyone. Ramendra
Babu, you have treated these poeple just the same way that others are treating you, even though your being mistreated is causing
you so much grief.

Ramendra : ' in these matters, I have no faith in education.Education leads us to accept many things that morality, saction and
tradition teach us to avoid. If our foot slips we don't cut if off and throw it away, yet I am not ready to bow my head before this
anology. I wish to make it very clear that if you want to live with me you will have to give up your old assuptions. I will even go so
far as to say that you will have to change you feelings so that you yourself hate such people. We have to refine our faculties in
such a way that society will feel ashamed of its injustice , if we let our conduct become corrupt, society's contempt for us will
appear justified in other's eyes'.

UTTAR PRADESH-UP HIGHER JUDICIAL SERVICES (MAINS)

EXAMINATION 2009
Translate the following paragraph from English to Hindi

MARKS:60

The individual is the passenger in the chariot of the material body, and intelligence is the driver. Mind is the driving instrument, and
the senses are the horses. The self is thus the enjoyer or sufferer in the association of the mind and senses. So, it is understood
by great thinkers.

The individual consiciouness or the life particle is compared to the passenger because he is the chief occupant and thus enjouer
or sufferer of the journey. The horses indicate the senses that always drag the chariot of the human body to the objects of the
senses. Intelligence is compared to he driver because the driver employs necassary discrimination for a successful and
comfortable journey. Reins are compared to the mind because they are directly connected to the horses(senses) and are guided
by the driver (intelligence). An able driver (intelligence) takes to properly guide the chariot towards its destination by
discrimination. In this way the passenger or the soul can reach the desired destination by proper use of all the faculties . On the
other hand, if any of the faculties are not controlled and coordinated properly in the hierarchy ,sooner or later there may be an
accident.

Many spiritual traditions of the world, specifically the Vedic tradition of India have proclaimed that conciousness is a distinct reality
in nature other than particles and waves. Some modern scientists have also supported this ancient wisdom. For example, Thomas
Huxley remarked, "It seems to me pretty plain that there is a third thing in the universe, to writ, consicouness, which.....
I of either." Similar observation is echoed in the words of the renowned physicist , Eugene, Wigene, Wiger, who started,
"There are two kinds of reality or existence; the existence of my conciousness and the reality or existence of everything
else."

According to Vedanta, Human activities are carried out by the will of the concious life particle, which is then translated through the
intelligence and mind to the human body. Mind intersacts with bisy through the brain. The brain is like the central processing unit
of a computer where all signals for activites come in and also go out, but it functions according to the will of the programmer. John
Eccles suggested phychon as the fundamental unit of the mind and it interacts with the brain through dendrons. Karl Probram has
suggested that psychon is something like a Gabor functions, a wave functions. However, Vendata indicates that the life particle
lies beyond particle and intelligence is a highly complex interaction and may will lie beyond the scope of modern science.

It will be narural that modrn biologists and biochemists should include that study of consciousness in their research works. The
field should not be left mainly to the neuroscientists, quantum physicists, psychologists and philosophers only
