The film office space (1999) portrays the reality inside each company. It is a story about work life
and the effects of bad management on the performance of the employee. Peter Gibson’s character
is an example of dissatisfied and unmotivated type of employee. He’s not into following memos
regarding their T.P.S reports. He doesn’t want to have eight bosses that gets mad everytime he
commits mistakes. The most shocking part for me is when Peter was interviewed by an
occupational hypnotherapist and admits this, "Each day of work is progressively worse than the
day before, so every time you see me that is the worst day of my life." That is the part when I
started thinking that the problem with Peter isn’t just himself but also with the management. After
his session with the occupational hypnotherapist, that is the start of a worst attitude of an
uncommitted employee. The way the two consultant fired Samir Nagheenanajar and Michael
Bolton and promoted Peter Gibson depicts how unjust and unfair the management when it comes
to their employees. On the other hand, the character of Joanna in Chotchkie’s seems like she’s a
committed employee but wearing more than the bare minimum of flair in work disgust her. She
decided to quit her job after her boss nag her for not wearing 37 flairs. After Samir and Michael
get fired and Peter is now promoted, they exact revenge to Initech stealing a fraction of penny for
every transaction but installing the virus into the system. Unfortunately, a fraction of a penny
became large amount in just days.

All in all, the character of Peter, Samir, Michael and Joanna is normally portraying different
employees. Their attitude, behavior, motivation, commitment and loyalty towards work. The
action of the three, stealing a fraction of a penny violates their professional code of ethics. The
Initech manifests a poor management that even in parking lots those with higher rank gets the
position near the office door. However, what caught my attention from the start upto the end is
Milton Waddams together with his red stapler. I’m not into criticizing all the wrongdoings of every
character because for me, in every action there’s always a reason behind or something that will
trigger the action even if it is good or bad. Milton is a committed, loyal and motivated employee
but it is the company who doesn’t want his existence anymore.
