Question 1: Why is africa considered as a poor continent despite of its rich resources?

Africa remains as one of the under equipped continents due to:

● Poverty - lack of provision to satisfy the basic human needs such as nutrition, clean
water, shelter and more. This results to malnutrition.
● Corruption - people in authority often use nepotism and bribery for the benefit of their
extended family group at the expense of their nations.
● Failed central planning - the land is subject to tribal ownership and in others, most of the
land is often in the hands of descendants of European settlers.
● Lack of access to education in some regions
● Military conflict - Africa consistently remains among the top places for ongoing conflicts.
Ex: Somalia
● Poor health management - The greatest mortality in Africa arises from preventable
water-borne diseases. The principal cause of these diseases is the regional water crisis, or
lack of safe drinking water.
● Overpopulation - With the population rising at such a high rate on the continent, and
having such a large number of poverty-stricken countries, it becomes very difficult to
prevent increasing poverty.
