What is animation?
Different Definitions for Animation:
In the simplest sense, animation is something that makes slide objects move on a slide. And slide objects
can be anything on a slide; these include text, pictures, charts, SmartArt graphics, shapes, even movie
clips.
Animation is the rapid display of a sequence of images of 2‐D or 3‐D artwork or model positions in order
to create an illusion of movement. It is an optical illusion of motion due to the phenomenon of
persistence of vision, and can be created and demonstrated in a number of ways.
Animation is a visual technique that provides the illusion of motion by displaying a collection of images
in rapid sequence. Each image contains a small change, for example a leg moves slightly, or the wheel of
a car turns. When the images are viewed rapidly, your eye fills in the details and the illusion of
movement is complete.
Animation Types:
Clay animation is one of many forms of stop motion animation. Each animated piece, either character or
background, is "deformable" ‐‐ made of a malleable substance, usually Plasticine clay.
Clay animation is not really a new technique as many people might think. Clay animation began shortly
after plasticine (a clay‐like substance) was invented in 1897, and one of the first films to use it was made
in 1902. Now, clay animation has become more popular and easier to do. Later on, more clay
animation films were made, such as the Wallace and Gromit series of movies, the advertisements that
were made for the California Raisin Advisory Board and the Celebrity Deathmatch series.
The background image is taken from AMARON Battery advertise which was a good Clay Animation.
Computer Animation:
Computer animation (or CGI animation) is the art of creating moving images with the use of computers.
It is a subfield of computer graphics and animation
Computer animation has also become common. Computer animation began about 40 years ago when
the first computer drawing system was created by General Motors and IBM. It allowed the user to view
a 3D model of a car and change the angles and rotation. Years later, more people helped make
computer animation better. Movies that used computer animation are: The Abyss, Jurassic Park, Forrest
Gump, and more. Also, computer animation was used differently, as in the show 'South Park', which
used stop motion cutout animation; recently it uses computer animation. A well‐known computer
animation company is Pixar. They are responsible for making Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc.,
Finding Nemo, and more. Also, video games have used computer animation as well.
3D animation are digitally modeled and manipulated by an animator. In order to
manipulate a mesh, it is given a digital skeletal structure that can be used to control the mesh.
This process is called rigging. Various other techniques can be applied, such as mathematical
functions (ex. gravity, particle simulations), simulated fur or hair, effects such as fire and water
and the use of Motion capture to name but a few, these techniques fall under the category of
3d dynamics.
Step 1 : Choose a Path (Which exam should I give?)
Ans: First, you have to choose your path in which you need to give your certification. Currently, there are three main
paths available for you.
1. Visual Studio 2005:‐ If you would like to get your skills certified for .NET Framework 2.0 then this path is for you.
As shown in diagram 70‐536(.NET Framework – Application) is a required for any sub path. Once you pass 70‐536 then
you can choose any sub path(s) to go for.
First sub path is for Windows Developers – If you would like to get your skills certified for Windows applications you
should choose first sub path (70‐526, 70‐548).
Second sub path is for Web Developers – If you would like to get your skills certified for Web applications you should
choose second sub path (70‐528, 70‐547).
Third sub path is for Distributed application Developers – – If you would like to get your skills certified for in distributed
applications, you should choose third sub path (70‐529, 70‐549).
Now, you must be thinking why two exams for each sub path? Good question. Let me answer it. When ever you give any
first exam from any of these sub paths like 70‐526/70‐528/70‐529 then you will be MCTS (Microsoft Certified
Technology Specialist – In that Field) e.g. If you clear 70‐528 then you will get MCTS – Web Certificate. In addition, after
that whenever you clear next exam from your sub path then you will be MCPD (Microsoft Certified Professional
Developer) – In that field e.g. If you clear 70‐547 then you will get MCPD –Web Certification.
2. Visual Studio 2008:‐ If you would like to get your skills certified for .NET Framework 3.5 then this path is for you.
Just a note: 70‐536 exam is common for Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2008 exams.
You can choose any sub path from above given diagram. The certificate pattern will be same as discussed in VS 2005
section.
Upgrade Path from Visual Studio 2005 to Visual Studio 2008
If you have cleared your certifications with Visual Studio 2005 Path and you would like to update your certification skills
for Visual Studio 2008 then you have to give update exam for that. E.g. If I have MCPD – Web(70‐547) in 2005 and I
would like to upgrade it to MCPD – Web 3.5 then I can do it by giving one exam with exam code – 70‐567
3. Visual Studio 2010:‐ If you would like to get your skills certified for .NET Framework 4.0 then this path is for you.
To Download Path guidance PDF from Microsoft have a look at links given below in Resources section
Step 2 : Start Preparing (How should I start preparing for an exam?)
Ans: Once you have finalized that which exam you would like to give. You can start preparing by reading Microsoft Press
Books and they are available for each exam code. You can download soft copy from Web or Purchase hard copy
whatever suits you the best!
If you buy a Hard copy of Book then you will get a CD as well. This contains Lab source code and Simulation exams.
Following are few guidelines for reading a book:
Read book thoroughly first time (It will be really helpful if you take your notes while reading a book, also at the
end of each lesson you will find few questions related to that lesson, try to answer them honestly and don’t
miss any LAB – Lab contains step by step tutorial for doing any concept practically which really helps you to clear
your understanding!).
In addition, revise it quickly before giving an exam.
Finally, before two weeks of your exam date start giving dumps – Dumps are simulation exams, which you can
download from Web for each of your exam code (Please note that you will get many dumps for your exam code
from the Web. However, do not read all dumps. Better you ask for Most Important dumps from someone who
has already appeared for an exam (As per my experience TestKing, Brain dumps, and Pass4Sure dumps are
useful – you may get 80‐100% questions from dumps in your real exam. However, no one can give you
guarantee for it!).
Step 3 : Go for an exam (Where and how can I give exam?)
Ans: When you have read book twice, you have given dumps exams. In addition, If you are confident enough that “yes
I’m ready for an exam”. Then here are the steps to give an exam:
1. Register for exam at your nearest PROMETRIC Center: ‐ You can register for your exam at nearest PROMETRIC
Center – Prometric center is certified to take certification exams. You can find your nearest Prometric center by
going on this link : http://www.prometric.com/default.htm
2. Visit your Prometric Center. They will be asking for your exam code and you can choose time slot whichever you
would like to choose.
3. In addition, each exam costs 50$(2500 RS.) [While registering for an exam check whether any offer going on? –
Because Microsoft provides so many offers for certification]. So, be ready with the amount
4. While appearing for an exam keep your ID Proof (Pan Card, Driving license, etc.) with you they may ask you for
identification purpose.
5. Format of the exam is as below:
a. Total Question : 45
b. Total Minutes : 140
c. Total Marks : 1000
d. Passing Marks : 700
e. No negative marking
f. MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions).
6. Once you Press “Finish” button. Your PROMETRIC center will get print out of your marks. Keep it with you for
your reference.
7. If you have cleared an exam. You can go for a party!
Step 4 : After exam (What will I get after passing my exam?)
Ans: If this was your first exam then after 7/more days you will get mail from Microsoft on your email ID (Which you
provided while registering for an exam at PROMETRIC Center) with your MCP ID. Using which you can register yourself
on MCP Portal.
Following are few things that you will get after clearing an exam:
Industry recognition
Access to technical and product information directly from Microsoft
Discounts on products and services
Microsoft paraphernalia like
o Logo: ‐ you can download your Certification logo from your MCP Portal. Which you can put on your
resume, blog anywhere.
o Certificate: ‐ You can download your Certificate from your MCP Portal. In addition, if you need hard copy
from Microsoft then you can order it by paying some nominal charges.
o Transcript: ‐ Transcript lists all your certification exams that you can share with employers by URL.
However, the immediate and most important benefits of certification are as follow, it increases in market value,
importance of the person, and boost in his / her career meant for software professionals.

Online public access catalogues (OPACs) are the interface that helps users communicates with
the collection of a library. Typically OPACs allow users to search the library’s catalogue, and
also provide some other facilities, such as checking borrower recodes, reserving materials,
library news bulletins, and so on. Such systems offer the advantage to the user of
sophisticated information retrieval technology which can process tens of thousands of
bibliographic records in a matter of seconds. Many libraries of all kinds have electronic Online
Public‐Access Catalogs (OPACs), one of the major forms of intellectual technologies that
libraries and other information agencies offer their clients. These intellectual technologies are
important tools in the inter‐mediation that information professionals have traditionally
provided and continue to provide:
Transactional mediation ‐ providing advice to the client or user, often in real time and
often while both parties are in the same place
Social mediation ‐identifying and providing reliable, authenticated information
Intellectual mediation ‐organizing and distributing information, often linked to major
value‐adding activities.
The OPACs that are available through the Internet, Web, often rely on the Z39.50 information
retrieval standard, which, in turn, integrates the MARC record into OPACs. Library catalogs,
whether online or not, perform several important tasks. First, they list materials in the
collection(s) of the institution(s). They identify the physical or digital locations of those items
and provide systematic descriptions of the materials. Lastly, library catalogs bring items with
similar characteristics together, e.g., author, title, and subject heading. Thus, OPACs and
other catalogs facilitate the finding of known items as well as unknown items.
It is clear that the concept of adding value to OPACs is one of their great strengths.
Links to full‐text, multimedia, composite documents
Links to journal titles, especially Tables of Contents as well as full‐text versions of
papers
Ability to order, reserve, recall, and renew materials online
Links through subject headings, authors, and publishers, especially professional
associations, to similar material.

SWITCHER
* Provides 3 different styles of display: you can choose the default style to use or switch at will via the F1‐F3 keys.
See the image to the right for a quick overview of these styles.
* Select by number keys: quick and direct. You can also scroll across the displayed windows using the arrow or tab
keys.
* Switcher Screenshot ‐ search functionSearch function: once Switcher is invoked, you can key in a keyword or part
of a keyword to filter your windows. The search box will appear once you start typing. See the screenshot to the
right for an example whereby Switcher filtered my nine or so windows to hone in on the two browser windows
related to my keyword. An interesting use of this is that you can set Switcher to remember your keyword filter
across sessions, such that it would always only populate the Windows that you are interested in and exclude any
others.
* Low on resources: at less than 10 megs in memory on my Windows 7 64 bit, this app will not tax your system .
* Portable: you can download an installer version as well as a portable unzip‐and‐run version.
* Customizable: you can customize how Switcher is invoked (keyboard hotkeys, mouse placement, or a
combination thereof). You can also customize other aspects, such as the color scheme used, etc.
* Win7: plays extremely well with Windows 7.
FILES TO FOLDER
Just a few notes about this software
* Filtypes handled: the context menu entry will handle any filetype you select; the GUI interface will handle
any of the filetypes defined in the “Filter” field.
* Multiple files with the same name and different extensions: are moved to the same folder. For example,
“Charlie‐Brown.avi”, “Charlie‐Brown.jpg”, and “Charlie‐Brown.nfo” will all end up in the same folder
(“Charlie‐Brown”).
* Context menu: works on both 32bit and 64bit Windows explorer. Add or remove this from the main
interface.
CCENHANCER
Most of us are familiar with CCleaner, probably the world’s most free popular hard drive (and registry)
cleaning program.
But if you have a lot of apps installed, there is a high likelihood that a lot of redundant and useless files are
accumulating on your hard drive anyway, despite CCleaner’s cleaning activity. The reason: for many apps,
CCleaner has to be told where to look. Although CCleaner offers support for a handful of very common
applications, such as MS Office or Adobe Flash Player, for many more applications, such as most alternative
internet browsers or apps such as uTorrent or KMplayer, etc.. CCleaner simply has no map to guide it.
This is where CCEnhancer can help. This CCleaner add‐on adds support for hundreds of extra custom
programs to CCleaner, beyond the handful that it supports by default. It simply scans your system to see what
programs you have installed and adds support for many to CCleaner in seconds.
With CCEnhancer, definitions for a wide range of custom apps can be download and installed within CCleaner
in seconds. More notes on this program below.
* Programs supported: over 270 as of this writing. Note that it checks your installed programs first, and
installs support for only those programs that are on your machine. As an example, see the screenshot on the
right for a “before and after” for my system.
* 1‐click operation: all you have to do is run CCEnhancer and press the “Download latest” button.
* Works for CCleaner portable as well
This is one of those programs that ostensibly does so little, but in fact can have a significant impact on your
notebook’s battery life. Aerofoil is a small, free app for Windows Vista and Windows 7 that reduces your
computer’s power consumption whenever it is running on battery. It does this by automatically switching off
some features, namely the Windows Vista/7 Aero glass interface, the Windows sidebar, muting the sound
whenever your notebook is running on battery.
More interestingly, it can also switch across different Windows power plans, enabling one power plan when
plugged in and a different one when running on battery.
The Aerofoil icon in the system tray also provides a very quick and easy way to toggle the Windows Aero
Glass interface on and off, useful for conserving CPU resources if and when you need to.
KEY FEATURES :
1‐ Manages your computer’s power plans
2‐ Windows Aero Glass interface
3‐ Consumes minimal resources
4‐ All services are optional
Cameyo
virtualization app can create portable executables from any application
Cameyo is a free software virtualization program that runs on both
32 bit and 64 bit operating systems.
How it works: Cameyo takes a snapshot of your system right before
you install a new software, monitors the install process, and figures
out all the modifications that were made to your system in the
interim. It then wraps the installed program and environment in a
virtual layer that is accessed via a single executable.
BBox
organize your files, folders, and URLs within a virtual environment
Box is a free program that can organize files and folders within a
virtual environment, allowing you to group with your files and folders
into categories and work with them without moving the actual files
and folders from their locations on your hard drive.
BBox can manage files and folders as well as URLs and notes, and
supports drag and drop from Windows explorer.

THE JUDGEMENT
There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too quickly.
So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away.
The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in sumMer, and the youngest son in
the fall.
When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen. The
first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted. The second son said no it was covered with
green buds and full of promise.
The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so
beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen.
The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and
fulfillment.
The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but only one
season in the tree's life.
He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of
who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life can only be Measured at the end,
when all the seasons are up.
If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer,
fulfillment of your fall.
Moral:
Don't let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest.
Don't judge life by one difficult season.
Intel Core i7 vs. i5 vs. i3
- Brief :
Although they’ve been out for a while now, Intel’s Core lineup, Core i7, Core i5, and Core i3
processors, are still considered relatively young (for processor line marketing).
And Being an IT Friend of yours, Here, I will review the three processors, explaining the technologies
behind them, Intel’s philosophy, and help you decide the best for yourself.
Rather than taking the traditional processor comparison route by showing you a bunch of benchmarks,
game performance specs, etc. This review of mine will focus on explaining the “core” of Intel’s core
lineup.
Although benchmarks are useful for heavy computer gamers, they pretty much mean jack to the
average computer user.
Why would the Inspiron computer be cheaper than the Studio?
- Aside from Inspiron being Dell’s base line, and Studio being Dell’s mid‐range line, the Core line
of processors (i3, i5, i7) are actually being marketed cheaper than the older Core 2 Duos and
Core 2 Quads; strategically, making them more affordable to the consumer.
Most likely, this is due to the struggling economy, and to put more pressure on Intel’s rival company
AMD, which has earned a reputation as being a much more affordable processor manufacturer than
Intel.
We’ll start at the bottom and work our way up.
Core i3:
Core i3 is Intel’s latest budget processor. Even though the Core i3 is the lowest of the bunch, it’s
still a very good processor that has received good to outstanding reviews by the majority of experts
and customers alike.
The technology behind Core i3 processors includes dual
core base, hyper threading support, and virtualization. Core i3
processors do support 64‐bit versions of Windows.
By taking advantage of Intel’s new chipset and 32nm
technology, Core i3’s have even been known to perform closely to
lower end Core 2 Quad processors(4 processors ).
‐ Well it depends. If you use your computer for basic tasks such as word processing, email,
surfing the web, etc., a Core i3 processor is more than enough to handle all of that with ease. A core i3
processor is a solid, affordable choice for the heavy majority of people.
Core i5:
Core i5 is the latest “mid‐range” processor by Intel. A step up from the Core i3, i5 processors
will give you a noticeable difference in speed, depending on what type of applications that you run. If
you are playing solitaire, you aren’t going to be able to tell a difference between Core i3 and Core i5
processors. If you are editing multiple files in Adobe Flash, with virtualization software, you may notice
the Core i5 to be snappier.
Technically, Core i5 processors are marketed a bit
differently. There are two main types of Core i5 Processors, dual
core, and quad core. Dual core i5 processors have 32nm
technology, hyper threading support, virtualization support, and
Turbo Boost technology. Quad core i5 processors have 45nm
technology, virtualization support and Turbo Boost technology,
but do not have hyper threading support.
‐ Yes, in most situations. However, one may be better than another when running multi‐
threaded applications. Be sure to take note of which specific Core i5’s are dual core vs. Core i5’s that
are quad core, if you are looking to buy a specific processor.
Should you buy a computer with a Core i5 processor?
‐ In most situations, a Core i5 is a safe bet. Core i5’s offer enough performance to do stuff like
video editing and gaming, and more than enough performance to do basic stuff like word processing,
internet surfing, and email. A Core i5 processor is a great, mid‐range priced processor for people who
use their computers frequently and often multi task. Hence, made for us kind of (at least right now …).
Not so fast. You haven’t read about the fastest yet.
Core i7:
Last, but not least, we have the Intel Core i7 processor lineup. Core i7’s are the
current top of the line, out of all the Core series
processors. They are also the most expensive.
Technically, Core i7’s also come in two different
varieties.
‐ Chipset. Core i7 processors are available in either a LGA1156 chipset or a LGA1366 chipset.
Both chipsets offer quad core performance, virtualization support, hyper threading, and Turbo Boost
Technology. However, the i7 9xx series processors, which utilize the 1366 chipset, are considered to be
slightly faster, and the “best of the best” out of all processors, even AMD.
Both variations of the Core i7 CPU will offer similar performance in most cases, and that performance
is screaming fast. The i7 9xx may perform slightly better in heavy gaming.
‐That would be up to you. For most computer users, an i7 processor is far from necessary. But if
you want the latest and fastest, that’s what the i7 is all about.
Even if you are doing some above average video rendering, Intel’s cheaper Core i5 should be able to
handle that. If you know what the term “overclocking” means, the Core i7 may be just what you were
looking for. If you have the cash to dish out, you could even consider going the Core i7 Extreme route,
which will put you at light speed… Not light speed, but pretty darn fast.
Many tech enthusiasts have noted that Intel will release a
new top of the line processor dubbed “i9.” Most likely, this will
not drop the price of the other Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7
processors. Rather, it will be offered as an ultra‐high performance
processor. A Core i9 is definitely possible in the near future,
possibly by Q3 of this year??
Benchmarking Tests Intel V/s AMD:
Here is Benchmarking test report of various Performance CPUs of Intel and AMD by
“pcgameshardware.com” and “tomashardware.com”
Power Consumption:
The differences between the three processors are quite obvious, and price reflects that. Get a
computer within your budget. But don’t get a high priced computer with an older Core 2 Duo or Core 2
Quad series processor.
Not that these aren’t great processors, but the newer Core i3‐i5‐i7 series offers better
performance at a lower price. The newer series also runs on a newer chipset. In turn, these processors
will be more “future proof.”
It’s easy to choose between i3,i5 and i7 but What about AMD V/S Intel ?
well amd v/s intel is very hot topic to discuss , you can decide that by analyzing
various benchmark reports for various applications.

L.You can use Lasso tool or Polygonal Lasso tool also but Magnetic Lasso tool is more
better.Make the changes on the upper menu as needed.Feather gives the
transparency on the edges that you select
4.Cut the part of the picture that you want with a new background by pressing
and going on across the edges .Begin and start at the same point. You will see
like following.
5.Select it and drag and drop on the file that you have just created.

NOTE: Please make a backup of your folder on which you are using this trick bcoz you might not
be able to use this trick correctly for the first time.(Works only for windows XP)
Yes thats right. You can lock any folder without using any software. Follow these
steps.
1.Suppose you have a folder named abcd in D:\abcd.
2.In the same drive next to the folder create a new notepad file with
the exact statement
ren abcd abcd.{21EC2020‐3AEA‐1069‐A2DD‐08002B30309D}
3.Now save this text file as loc.bat
4.Create another notepad file and type
ren abcd.{21EC2020‐3AEA‐1069‐A2DD‐08002B30309D} abcd
5.Save this as key.bat
6.Now there are two batch files . Double click loc.bat and your folder
will change into Control Panel and its contents cannot be viewed .
7.To open the folder double click key.bat and you get back your
original folder .
8.For more safety keep the key.bat in another location .Only for
unlocking copy paste to the original location and double click .
Concerned about logic behind this??
‐well it’s pretty simple This will rename your folder so it will point to control panel when you
open. And while unlocking it will remove characters after “.” so it’ll be normal folder again.
You can do Same thing with command prompt also.
Note: This trick has some drawbacks . well most of the securities can be breaked.. so this one also.. you
will find ways to break this protection as well !!!!
Another Trick !!(works on windows 7)
‐ add this behind folder name to lock .{2559a1f2‐21d7‐11d4‐bdaf‐00c04f60b9f0}
Eg. If u have “abcd” then rename it abcd. .{2559a1f2‐21d7‐11d4‐bdaf‐00c04f60b9f0}
‐To unlock remove that part after “.” So simple ! Eg. make it again “abcd”
Bring Back The Time….
I walk to places where we’ve been,
Thinking will see you somehow.
To arrive early than expected,
Will not occur now.
Hope never dies to be with you.
Bring back the time when you used to hold my hand,
And console me that I’m not alone.
Bring back the time when you used to make me The inaugural of bright sunny day,
blush, And those never ending calls.
And make me feel your own. Now all seem to be despair,
And wanna cross all walls.
Hope never dies to be with you.
Bring back the time when you used to hold my hand,
And console me that I’m not alone.
Bring back the time when you used to make me
blush,
And make me feel your own.
The soft gentle touch of your body,
And your essence still pulls me.
I wanna have your glimpse my baby,
Coz you own my heart’s key.
Hope never dies to be with you.
Bring back the time when you used to hold my hand,
And console me that I’m not alone.
Though i know we gotta say good bye,
Bring back the time when you used to make me
Your memories is what will keep me alive.
blush,
Your smile,your love,your care,
And make me feel your own.
Is never gonna make me die.
Hope never dies to be with you.
Bring back the time when you used to hold my hand,
And console me that I’m not alone.
Bring back the time when you used to make me
blush,
And make me feel your own.

Dogs truly are one of the greatest gifts that God ever gave us. They
give us unconditional love just as God does and remind us daily that we too
can love this way if we choose.
There is a joyous ringing in my house since past one year. She comes
from a bouncing, jumping, running, tail wagging, face licking bundle of
happiness with a bell on her collar. It comes from a rapidly growing four-
legged, innocent faced, brown eyed ball of energy that has made its home in
our house and hearts.
Yes, I have an adorable, cute, furry dog called Amo. It means love in
Latin and the name fits this very lovable pawl.
May be because they love us so much. Whenever I am sad, the way she
comes to me wagging her tail and showing how much she cares and how
much she is happy when I give her attention, just pure unconditional love.
Well that is the best thing I can expect in this world. I can’t even picture my
life without her. The big surprise for me was how many activities I can do
with her. The variety of sports, games, and just the simple good times was
also an eye opener.
Sometimes I just take the unconditional love given by her taken for
granted. I should have not done that because there may be a day when she
mite not be waiting for me at the door because god has decided to take her.
Well that would be one of the worst day of my life.

Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain
silent. - Victor Hugo
World Music Day, also known as Fete de la Musique, was a music festival that began in France
in 1982. The idea was conceived by French Minister of Culture, Jack Lang, in 1981. Since then
June 21st has been celebrated every year as the World Music Day.
On this day, the musicians perform for free in open areas. Free concerts are organized in parks,
museums, train stations, castles etc. This helps in making all sorts of music accessible to the
public. It gives an opportunity to commune and share a special bond through music. There is no
restriction for noise on this day.
The term ‘World Music’ includes both traditional as well as non‐Western music. It is folk music
of any culture, played by indigenous people. It is also a classical music along with traditional
ethnic instruments. Some of them are – Japanese `Koto` music, Indian `raga` music, Tibetan
`chants` and South African `township` music.
World Music Day is celebrated in Argentina, Australia, Britain, Luxemburg, Germany,
Switzerland, Costa Rica, China, India, Lebanon and several other countries. This is done to
promote peace and spread goodwill through music. Musicians from across the world are also
invited to perform on World Music Day.
Genres of music:
India being a land of diversity with varied cultures, traditions and art forms, every region has its
own unique musical form. While there are various genres, Indian classical music has been
divided into North Indian traditional known as Hindustani music and Carnatic music belonging
to South India.
Apart from these, there are wide‐ranging forms such as Bhangra, Bhajans or Devotional,
Ghazals and Qawwalis, Indi‐Pop, Folk, Tribal, Film Songs, Remixes, Fusion etc. While Bhangra is
a dance oriented folk music, Bhavageete (devotional song) is a form of expressionist poetry and
light music. Qawwali is a Sufi form of devotional music based on Hindustani classical.
In the West, we have Metal, Punk, Rock, Hip‐Hop, Hard Rock, Alternative, Experimental,
Country, Disco, Funk, Classical, Progressive, Trance, Techno, Ska, Reggae music.
Music is a vital form of communication. It’s a manifestation of society in a particular time and
place. Music needs no restrictions, boundaries; it bonds us irrespective of who we are, and
where we are from. It’s a source of entertainment as well as platform to put across past,
present and future messages.
Music also helps socialize and meet new people. Music can do wonders on overall well‐being of
the mind and state. It is said, listening to music has positive effects on us. One can ease off
mental illness by listening to soft, soothing music. Bid adieu to depression and anxiety by tuning
in to your favourite track. It promotes sound sleep as well.
Music helps us unite for a good cause. Various artists jointly raised money for the quake‐struck
Haiti by recording MJ’s song ‘We are the World’. It sounds beautiful as well as inspiring, as it
echoes noble thoughts. John Lennon`s song `Imagine` can be cited as a sweet remedy in this
trouble‐torn world:
Various music festivals:
There are many World Music festivals and jazz/folk/roots/new age crossover events.
‐ The Ariano Folkfestival in southern Italy
-The California World Music Festival
-The World Sacred Music Festival in Olympia, Washington State
-FloydFest in Floyd, Virginia, USA
-The Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance in
Trumansburg, New York, USA
-Rainforest World Music Festival in Malaysia
-Stern Grove festival is a San Francisco celebration of musical and
cultural diversity
-The Starwood Festival in New York
