Implications of “Exploring the Language of Poems and Prose and Plays”

on the Teaching and Learning of Language

Teaching and learning of language is a very challenging task for everyone

especially for us educators. There are various ways in which teaching of language can
be easily acquired. However, because of different amounts of background knowledge, it
became harder to understand it. It is really substantial to consider not only the different
background knowledge but also the methods we use in teaching language. These
methods somehow really confuse the learners that is why educators must really know
how to explain it in a simple way where it can really reach the learners mind.
In the book, Exploring the Language of Poems and Prose and Plays by Mick Short,
it really give us a thorough explanation about what an English Teacher/ Language
Teacher should first learn in order to impart these learnings to his students. This book
contains topics that can cater everything even from the most basic up to complex lesson.
Literature is one the subject one can choose not to take. For some, it is really not an
attention-grabbing one. But as we go deeper into the meanings and styles of any kind of
literature, we can start to appreciate the beauty of studying language in it. Having to know
this book really helped me understand every detail, everything I never thought would be
just so easy. Teaching of Language will be harder if one never even tried to learn it form
the start. You cannot finish a race successfully if you did not start from the start line. You
must admit to yourself that you need to learn first before being able to impart it to your
learners. This book helped me to take a look at the deeper meaning of every literary text,
how language were used in the said text. Everything that a student will learn will be first
assimilated by the teacher so that the teaching and learning process would not be
compromised.
Once you learned how to teach and learn language, everything that follows will be
just a piece of cake. Teaching cannot be defined apart from learning. It is a continuous
process. Being able to learn language is also an indication that one can teach it very well.
