About Anna University
Anna University was established on 4th
September 1978 as a unitary type of Uni-
versity. It offers higher education in Engi-
neering, Technology and allied Sciences
relevant to the current and projected needs
of the society. Besides promoting re-
search and disseminating knowledge
gained therefrom, it fosters cooperation
between the academic and industrial com-
munities. Since December 2001,it has
become a large, highly renowned Affiliated

About Department of IST
Department of Information Science & Tech-
nology ( IST ) was carved out of
the ,Department of Computer Science and
Engineering in May 2010. The
Department functions under the Faculty of
Information and Communication Engineer-
ing. Dr. Saswati Mukherjee, is currently
the Head of the Department. IST function as
one of the University Department having
academic autonomy of having its own sylla-
bus and curriculum. It offers undergraduate,
postgraduate and research programme in
various disciplines of Information
Technology, Multimedia & MCA Degree
Programme.
About the Course
IT Essentials covers fundamental com-
puter and programming skills for entry-
level CS and IT engineering students. The
objectives of the course are:
To introduce the concept of Internet, Net-
works and its working principles.
To know scripting languages.
To understand various applications related
to Information Technology.
Theory and relevant programming and
Simulation tools will be covered as part of
this FDTP.
REGISTRATION
The course is offered free of cost to the fac-
ulty members of Anna University and its affili-
ated colleges. The total registration is re-
stricted to 25 members on first-cum-first-serve
basis. During the programme, working lunch
and refreshments will be provided. Accommo-
dation shall be provided in Hostel based on
availability.
ELIGIBILITY
Faculty of CSE and IT from colleges affiliated
to Anna University are eligible.
PROGRAMME CERTIFICATES
Participation certificates will be issued to the
candidates who attend the programme for the
entire duration. The certificate will be issued
by the Centre for Faculty Development, Anna
University, Chennai - 600025
