7:30pm St. Luke’s Church Mirinesse Music to evoke The Fens Criste and Sainte Marie Godric of Fincale Thank you very much for coming to tonight’s Sancte Pege Virginis Crowland Gradual concert. It has long been an ambition of mine to plan Miri It Is Thorney Abbey a programme of music, based on the beautiful area that I call home. When Sue Baker contacted me to O Come Thou Spirit Divinest John Amner ask if I would like to bring Mirinesse to give a The Silver Swan Orlando Gibbons concert St. Luke’s, I knew it was the perfect time, the The Fens John Clare church being situated so beautifully within the fenland landscape. The Bluebird Charles Villiers Stanford Flying Free Don Besig I have really enjoyed exploring the idea behind the The Birds Rachel Portman programme and discovering some new songs along the way. Some of the music has its home here, being The Lincolnshire Poacher Traditional composed by people who lived in the area. Other INTERVAL pieces are based on themes which remind me of The Fens, such as birds, which feature prominently Sprig of Thyme Traditional tonight and in the wildlife that calls this area home. The Captain’s Apprentice Traditional Fenland Song Traditional As ever, the concert fits in with the aims I set myself, when creating the choir: To explore a wide Extract from Waterland Graham Swift range of music, including very early and new pieces and music by female composers; To bring music to Fly Singing Bird Edward Elgar new and different venues. It has been a pleasure Seal Lullaby Eric Whitacre singing in this charming little church. The choir has Look at the Stars Rachel Portman been made to feel extremely welcome and it is lovely to help the church celebrate its 150th anniversary. Extracts from The Land Andy Hawes I hope you enjoy all of the music tonight and that it Ave Verum Will Todd brings into focus the stunning landscapes around us. A Gaelic Blessing John Rutter
