Introduction

There are different ways that a teacher can integrate technology into the lesson plan. Group
activities, conducting research, and projects are just a few of the ways that this can be done. Many have
the option to use multiple devices such as computers, handheld devices such as tablets and laptops.
Students can even utilize their personal phones to integrate technology into their daily learning.

Group Activities

Group activities can be conducted with the whole class or small groups. If using small groups,
one should consider creating centers. Establishing time limits and keeping small groups to a max of 4
people will minimize the amount of time students have to play around instead of performing the tasks.
One could save some time by having applications open and ensuring that they are working prior to the
students utilizing them.

Conducting Research

When using technology to conduct research, set research parameters for the students. Have
them outline their project goals and even write down particular search parameters to help find the
answers. Ensure that students are prepared prior to going to the computer will also ensure that they are
staying on track.

Communicating Final Projects

There are several of ways for students to provide their final project. A suggestion would be to
pick at least two ways to share. Some examples are via email, website link, or Google documents. This
way students can retrieve their work to present to the class.

One Computer Classroom

If there is only one computer available for the classroom, place the computer in a localized place
for all to be able to use it. Choosing classroom group activities or centers would make it easier for
students to be more involved in the technology integration. Setting time limits for individuals/groups
will ensure that all have an opportunity to use it. If the computer is being utilized for research, have
students prepare their research questions first. Secondly, utilizing split screen can allow two students to
do independent research at the same time.

Multi-computer classroom

If there is multiple computers available, ensure that all computers are set up. Utilizing a screen
share or monitoring program will help ensure that students are staying on track. Ensure that safeguards
are in place to prevent improper use of technology. Set rules for students to follow when using
technology. Finally, having options for online activities for early finishers will deter students from using
technology inappropriately.
Portable Devices

Selecting particular activities for devices to be used as well as limiting access to resources
needed can keep students focused on the purpose of the devices. Safeguarding and monitoring can help
ensure that students are staying on track.

Conclusion

Students have a lot benefit with technology integration. The use of technology in classrooms,
small groups, and individually for learning or research can be a wonderful tool to incorporate. Whether
one has access to one device or multiple portable devices, time limits and monitoring can ensure that
devices are being used correctly.
