This experiment will be carried out in 2020 and 2021at
the Nursery of Ornamental Plants, Faculty of Agriculture South Valley University, Qena, Egypt. Gladiolus (Gladiolus spp.), the queen of the bulbous ornamentals ,is the leading geophytes grown worldwide for cut flower trade and garden displays. Gladiolus plant is a tender herbaceous perennial belonging to the family Iridaceae, growing from both seeds and corms. It occupies a pristine place in the garden for its magnificent inflorescence, wide array of colours, and fascinating varieties of shapes and sizes. Mutation breeding is a well-known method for crop improvement, and it has played a key role in the development of many new colour/shape mutants in ornamental plants. Induced mutations with chemical or physical agents, could successfully use to change the genetic information. Corms will treat with chemical mutagenesis such as ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS) or sodium azide (NA3N) and Isopropyl methane sulphonate (IPMS) to induced genetic variability in gladiolus plants. corms will be treated using different doses before planting. During the growth season different growth parameters such as plant height, corm weight ,corm diameter will be recorded. The flower traits included color, size weight in addition to number of florets will be estimated. The variation among the estimated data will be calculated to found out the phenotypic as well as genotypic coefficient of variation ,heritability and genetic advance will be calculated.
