COURSE DESCRIPTION
We are all decision makers! In practice, making decisions in business environment becomes
difficult due to uncertainty, conflicting objectives, and ill-structured problems. The objective of
this course is simply to help you make better decisions. After completing this course, the
students are expected to have a sound conceptual knowledge and be better equipped with a
variety of approaches in structuring, analyzing, and synthesizing decision problems. This
course will help you think clearly about values, objectives, alternatives, consequences, risks,
uncertainties and ambiguities, and enable you to come up with sound judgments and choices
in a logical and justifiable way given any business decision problems.

COURSE OBJECTIVE
The objective of the course is to equip student with the required perspectives and capabilities
in making strategic decisions. After completing this course, students are expected to be
be able to:
• Identify whether or not the problem is strategic
• Structure strategic decision problems under certainty, uncertainty, and ambiguity
• Solve strategic decision problems using applications/softwares
• Make sound judgments and choices based on the results of applications/softwares
• Narrate clearly the strategic importance of decisions being made

In addition to the course objectives listed above, students are expected to develop the
following learning goals by the end of the course:

GROUP PROJECT
The group project will provide students an opportunity to demonstrate the decision-making
processes in a real-world situation. Each group shall carry out the following framework:
1. Pick any company that you might be interested in. Briefly describe the organization's
overall business strategy. State briefly its current performance facing the current
business landscape in industry.
2. Select a particular decision problem, the strategic one, within the organization that might
be hurtful to the organization's competitiveness. Conduct a thorough analysis to that
problem using related concepts, techniques, and tools given in the class.
3. Develop recommendations for how the organization should attack the current problem.
Make specific, actionable recommendations. Show the value of your recommendations
in terms of maximizing benefit & opportunity and/or minimizing cost & risk.

At the end of the course, each group must submit the complete report and make a
presentation.
