1. In your own words define “environment” and why do you think people have different perceptions of
environment?
For me the environment is a habitat and surroundings for living and nonliving organisms
and works together to live and benefit one another. Environment consists of different sectors that
are crucial to one another. A place where you live is an environment. A tree is environment, room
and many more. That is why environment must be balance in order to survive, if not it can lead to
fighting and destroying each organisms and in worst cause extinction.
People have different perceptions of environment because of their appreciation of things.
One of the factors of these is people’s own set of priorities and needs. Add also their culture,
beliefs, education and understanding. People may have the same environmental situation but
different understanding. Maybe interpreting some particular things can be very not similar for one
individual to another individual. For example an environment for a healthy living person is a give of
life. Shelter, healthy food, essentials, place etc. are the benefits the healthy person enjoying from it.
But on the other hand, environment for a business minded and capitalist people is money.
Extracting those natural resources can help them to produce what they want, sell them and make
money. Also culture helps individual shape its knowledge and appreciation about environment.
Having environmental education helps people to boost knowledge about the proper assessment to
do in our environment. In various countries environmental education level differs as well as the
support of the government and associations associated to the environment were low. That leads on
having people that have poor knowledge about environment. Having different sets of principles and
beliefs also affect their perceptions. And what type of a person you are. Environment is not small
because it is big having variant of meaning because environment does not contain in a tree or a
place. Environment meaning varies between people. All the said information makes up to have
different ranges of perceptions about environment. But the important whether people have ranges
of perception is how they manage it. How they sustain the environment for the good of the future
people.

2. Environmental management does not only rely on principles of natural sciences such as earth
science, biology, chemistry and physics. It also depends on the concepts of social sciences. What
is the relevance of social theories in studying the environment and in environmental management?
First of all social theories is important in studying environment and in environmental
management because it is used as guide or based by the professionals in understanding each
society. Also the social science narrowing to social theories is mainly about how society explains
 and provides solutions to the environmental crisis. One big and well known example is the global
warming. Global warming is acknowledged by majority of the greatest scientist that is caused by
the society. How society works, behave and phenomena. Produce by fossil fuels, cars, industries
and such that are being used by the people of the society. Social theories dealing with how society
behave, work, social phenomena and such that is directly associated with environment. Having
social theory related to environment help people more to understand what the society is facing it.
And having a label on what society is having that makes for the professionals as well as the
individuals to easily know it and act based on it. Having social theory is caused by the society that
lives in the environment so in other words social theories helps to categorize and specific social
phenomena that is relatively related to the environment. That led to producing knowledge and
future researches about this and finding solution about those problems for example the world
environmental problem. Like deforestation, climate change, chemical waste, biotechnology
materials and such. Different social theory varies in studying environment and in environmental
management. It maybe benefits or misuses the social theory or vice versa. Having social theory in
different time pace helps environment understand more and create appropriate solution to those
dilemmas the society and world is facing. Providing theories helps the people to study and
analyze environment connecting each other to provide more accurate information about certain
problems that are increasing as time pass by. Understanding environment is a lot easier when it is
connected to social theory and knowing what is happening around your society.

environmental management implemented. Evaluate the community development and
environmental management that was conducted in the community featured in the video.
The environmental management implemented was construction of the river control to
reduce the flooding in their community along with it was conducting a seminar for the people to
have proper knowledge on what will be doing in case of these ecological disaster.
Community development in Barangay Bio-os Municipality of Amlan in Negros Oriental is
great. First of all they managed to identify the problem that their barangay is a flood prone area.
After that they create community collaboration team with the help from Kalahi CIDSS and LGU.
During rainy season and usual raining days their community will be easily flooded by the water
from the community water system. This caused interruption and lead to accidents to the locals.
Unity, necessity and survival are their community’s assets. Now locals have their vision, it’s to
reduce flooding to their community for the benefit and safety of all. The community plan is to create
river control with the help of the said group, local government and the community itself. At least
95.36% of the project was finish. They reflect from their experience and evaluate more what will be
their next step after the project was finished. It is the evacuation area that is safer and more
accessible for the community. All in all the community development in Bio – os Amlan, Negros
Oriental is 9.8 over 10. Although they did not finish the project on time but still their community
assets and interest is to benefit all of the people living in the community.
In the part of the community environmental management they at least lessen the floods in
their community and prevent accident to happen. This is better for the community to have
knowledge because they must know what to do in times of ecological disaster. After the project
they plan to construct a safer and accessible evacuation area. Their problem is flooding and
construction of river control, conducting seminars and planning to have a better evacuation is
appropriate solutions. The community’s environmental management is 9/10. A safe and better
 evacuation site is also crucial in this kind of problem. At least if working in river control, seminars,
together with the constructing and ensuring evacuation site would be great.

4. How did social theorizing help in implementing the development plan in the featured community in
the video?
Having knowledge on what is happening around your environment is very crucial in the
featured community video. By doing so they acknowledge and find what their community is lacking
and having problem with. It is about flooding. Understanding and analyzing on what community is
facing is a big contribution to push through the community development plan. Knowing their
flooding problem and experiencing some effect of the said problems helps the community itself to
be able to implement the development plan with the help of some organizations and government.
Majority of the individuals of the community is aware of what is happening in their community. That
is why they provided an appropriate solution that lessens their problem. Also the thought that
anytime when flood will drown their place the danger and accident it may bring to them that may
cause death for the community also add up the courage of people to work on developing and
enhancing their community.
