LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH

GRADE 7

I. OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
 Know more information about body’s first line of defense
 Understand the ways of becoming healthy through personal experiences
 Appreciate the importance of becoming healthy
II. SUBJECT MATTER
TOPIC: The Body’s First Line of Defense

ENZYME /ˈenzīm/ ‘NOUN’
Definition: a substance produced by a living organism which acts as a
catalyst to bring about a specific biochemical reaction.
Synonym: stimulant
Antonym: block, hindrance
Example:
1. It is not destroyed by any of the enzyme solutions which I have tried.
2. On a successful wither the amount of the tea ferment or enzyme is
dependent.

B. MOTIVATION/ELICITATION
The teacher will show a news clip about the issue on corona virus in the
Philippines. After watching the news, the teacher will ask the students
reactions regarding the issue.
Question:
 What can you say about the issue?
 What precautions you have to make yourself safe from the virus?

C. PRESENTATION/DISCUSSION OF THE LESSON


 The teacher will ask the students about what they think when they hear
the title of the selection: The Body’s First Line of Defense.
 The teacher will introduce to the students the Question – Answer
Relationship Strategy
Four types of questions are examined in the QAR:

 Right There Questions: Literal questions whose answers can be found in


the text. Often the words used in the question are the same words found in
the text.
 Think and Search Questions: Answers are gathered from several parts of
the text and put together to make meaning.
 Author and You: These questions are based on information provided in the
text but the student is required to relate it to their own experience. Although
the answer does not lie directly in the text, the student must have read it in
order to answer the question.
 On My Own: These questions do not require the student to have read the
passage but he/she must use their background or prior knowledge to answer
the question.

 The teacher will allow the students to read the selection silently. They
will answer the questions using the Question – Answer Relationship
Worksheet.
D. EVALUATION
CLASS ACTIVITY
After the students answer the question, the teacher will now discussed the
selection and will answer the questions together with the students afterwards.

According to the selection, our body has two – line defense system
2. What are the first line defense of the body?
The first line defense of the body (or outside defense system) includes the
skin, tears, mucus, cilia, stomach acid, urine flow, “friendly” bacteria and
white blood cells called neutrophils.
3. How do tears and mucus defend the body from disease causing diseases?
Tears and mucus defend the body from disease because it contain enzyme
that breaks down the cell wall of many bacteria. Those that are not killed
immediately are trapped in mucus and swallowed.

4. Can you give examples of friendly bacteria? Which paragraph tells you
these?
An examples of friendly bacteria is white blood cells called neutrophils
which can be found in the second and last part of the selection.

According to the author, the second line of defense is activated when the
first line of defense is broken.

6. What would you advise to a friend who suffers from cough and cold?
If I have a friend who suffers from cough and cold, I will tell him/her to
take a medicine, drink plenty of water, eat fruits and vegetables and wear a
mask or cover his/her mouth when sneezing or coughing infecting others.

7. How should we strengthen our body’s defense?


We can strengthen our body’s defense by eating healthy foods, avoid
smoking and drinking too much alcohol, drink plenty of waters, get
adequate sleep and following precautionary measures.
GROUP ACTIVITY
The teacher will divide the class into four. The students will do an activity
based on the task that will be assigned to their group.

Group 1: They will make a song about the importance of being healthy
Group 2: They will make a about the ways of staying healthy
Group 3: They will make a poster about the effect if one did not take good
care of their body.
Group 4: They will make a speech on how to prevent any diseases.
IV. VALUING/GENERALIZATION
The teacher will wrap up the topic.

Our body has a two line defense system against germs that make you sick. The first
line defense system includes physical and chemical barrier that are always ready and
prepared to defend our body from any infection. These include your skin, tears, mucus,
cilia, stomach acid, urine flow, “friendly” bacteria and white blood cells called
neutrophils. If the first line of defense of the body is broken the second line of defense
is activated.
Question: What is/are you realization about our topic for today?

V. ASSIGNMENT
Ask your family member or neighbor if they have an idea about the body’s first line of
defense. If Yes, ask them about its importance, If No, explain to them and write their
reaction about it.
