The Paradox of Graduation

Togas, caps, souvenir pictures, diplomas and medals… These are the things
we usually see in every commencement exercises. But behind every smiling face
covers the deep thought that every beginning has to end. That’s the circle of life
wherein every start of a journey, there is always an end.
Graduation marks the end of a journey in a certain point of life and is the start
of another yet challenging voyage ahead of us. The ceremony is the fruit of all the
arduous undertakings, the difficulties a certain individual had been passed and all
the tasks being accomplished. Yes, it is a day of celebration. It is a day full of smiles,
tears of joy and non-stop celebration especially when one had been experienced
different trials. But as the ceremony ends, one can reflect on deeper thoughts that the
journey waiting for him is tougher. Also, the bond between you and your classmates
will become weaker because you will take different paths towards success. This is
what hurts much. The things you usually do with your friends will not happen
anymore. The things you used to do will not be the same as you go on with the next
stage of your life. But on that stage of life comes different opportunities for you.
Opportunities that make you stronger. Opportunities that make you braver.
Opportunities for you to meet different persons from different walks of life.
Opportunities for you to make your goals be achieved. And that is the paradox of
every graduation rite. Saying goodbye from the people you met first and hello to the
new persons and chances.
As the saying goes, “You cannot understand the true meaning of happiness
without experiencing sadness.” That is life. It is dual in nature. And with this, the
graduation marks the closing and opening of the doors in your life.
