PREFACE

- Taiwan is a country that has limited land.

- Taiwan has total area 36,197 km2, with
23,780,452 (2018) population or 650/km2
density.
- The price of house and land become
expensive.
- Taiwan is on top 6 Asia country that has
expensive land per square meter.

PREFACE
- Many people of Taiwan have to
expand their house to upside
compared to the side.
- A house with 2-3 floors is very easy
to find in Taiwan.
- In order to gain more living space,
Taiwanese people usually build
metal sheet shelters / rooms above
the roof top (characteristic of cities in
Taiwan).
A home near NCUT - We also can find easily this kind of
private collection
building near our school as shown in
the picture.
PREFACE
- The use of sheet metal in buildings
or houses is preferred because of its
low price and easy construction.
- A building based on a traditional
masonry process may take 6 to 7
months to complete.
- A building of the same volume
utilising stud partitions (sheet metal
sandwich panel and it’s foundation )
takes just around 1 month to
complete.

PURPOSE

design a room with sheet metal add room features that

and light gauge steel create thermal comfort
for the occupants
BRIEF THEORY
SHEET METAL

Sheet metal is one of the

fundamental forms used in
metalworking and it can be cut and
bent into a variety of shapes. Sheet
metal is metal formed by an
industrial process into thin, flat
pieces.
SHEET METAL

- Properly designed and professionally constructed and

installed by experienced contractors sheet metal elements can
last for centuries.

- Sheet metal fits all “green”  building materials measures,

especially recycled content.

- Lightcolored metal roofs very energy efficient. Soldered sheet

metal joints are “sustainable” and do not require continuous
maintenance—unlike all sealant protected joints.
LIGHT GAUGE
STEEL
- Light gauge steel products are known to offer a range of
construction related benefits most notably speed of
construction, cost-effectiveness and safety.

- Easy and safe to handle both during fabrication and

construction.

- LGS with a zinc alloy that completely covers the steel surface
and seals it from the corrosive action of its environment. This
results in buildings that are more solid, rigid, stronger, durable
and easier to build.

- Utilize a free space on the rooftop,
based on the explanation describe
earlier.

- The building is consist of 2 floor, and

has free space on the roof top.

- This building is 4.5 meters length, 10

meters width and 3 meters height.
- This room is designed for a remote worker, freelancer, or even a gamer, that
can do their job from their house. The proffesion that not require the worker
must be at office.

- And the comfort room will make their productivity increase, and also save their
money because of use free space as their  own office/living space/workplace.
- Comfort room will become a concern
here.

- By add some features on this room,

it is expected that this room is good in
design and comfortable for
occupants.
The room will have 4.5 meter length,
6.5 meter width, and 3 meter height.
Light Gauge Steel is used as foundation of the
room.
Sheet metal is used as walls and roof
materials.
ROOM FEATURES
"The most effective
method to cool our
home is to keep the
heat from building up
in the first place"
source : Department of Energy United States of America

- The primary source of heat buildup is sunlight absorbed by our house through
the roof, walls, and windows.

- Secondary sources are heat-generating appliances in the home and air leakage.

- So, to provide thermal comfort of this room we need to add some features.
LIGHTEN ROOF AND
WALLS COLOR
- Dull, dark-colored exterior absorb
70 % - 90 % of the radiant energy
from the sun that strikes the home’s
surface.
- Some of this absorbed energy is
then transferred into our home by
way of conduction, resulting in heat

prevent radiant energy from the sun,

away from our home.
INSTALL RADIANT
BARRIER
- Another way to reflect heat is to
install a radiant barrier on the
underside of our roof.

- A radiant barrier is simply a

sheet of aluminum foil with a paper
backing.
source : Department of Energy United States of America

- When installed correctly, a radiant

barrier can reduce heat gains
through our ceiling by about 25%.
"Roughly 40% of the unwanted
heat that builds up in your home
comes in through windows"
ADD REFLECTIVE
COATING TO WINDOWS
- Reflective window coatings are one
way to reflect heat away from your
home. These coatings are plastic
sheets treated

-  Combination films will be used,

which allow some light into a room.

- These films are best for climates

that have both hot and cold seasons.

INSULATE
ATTIC AND WALLS
- Insulating help seal and protect our
house against the
summer heat in addition to keeping
out the winter cold.

- R-30 for both of of walls and roof.

For roofing it will be used double
layer, to prevent heat from solar
gains and has double perfomance.

-R30 has several advantage including

installation.
INSTALL VEGETATED
WALL
Sheet metal room / spaces with
vegetated wall > without vegetated
wall (more comfortable) during the
daytime in both of cold wave and hot
period.

It was discovered that indoor

vegetated wall is able to reduce the
severity of overcooling and
overheating.

unventilated attics"
VENTILATE ATTIC AND
C O M B I N E W I T H D Y N A M IC
VENT

- It greatly reduces the amount of

accumulated heat, which eventually
works its way into the main part of
our house.

- Properly louvers and roof vents

help prevent moisture buildup and
overheating in our attic.

- Also add Dynamic Vent (spin Vent)

INCREASE
N A T U R A L V E N T I L A T I ON

- Encouraging cool air to enter

our house forces warm air out, makes
house comfortably cool (inside
temperature is higher than the
outside)

- In climates with daytime breezes,

open windows on the side from
where the breeze is coming and on
the opposite side of the house.
source : Department of Energy United States of America

- Keep interior doors open to

encourage whole house ventilation.
ADD EXHAUST FAN

- Exhaust fans in the home are very

beneficial for maintaining ideal
temperature and air quality

- Exhaust fans are used to pull excess

moisture and unwanted odors out of
a particular room or area

- Exhaust fans pull odors, fumes, and

moisture from an area of the home,
