Read the following passage and answer the questions accordingly.

1 The city of Kota Kinabalu is the capital of Sabah. It is located on


the west coast of “the Land Below the Wind”. Kota Kinabalu has
an international airport, world class hotels, countless restaurants
and cafe shops, shopping malls and business districts. It has about
350,000 inhabitants. 5

2 The city is popular with both foreigners and locals. A top tourist
destination which is adjacent to the city is the Tunku Abdul
Rahman Park. Tourists can relax, dive, snorkel and do a wide
variety of watersports at the park. The Signal Hill Observatory is
another tourist destination. It offers a bird's eye view of the city. 10

3 The State Museum is based on the architecture of Murut and


Rungus longhouses. It has several galleries exhibiting human skulls
from Sabah’s headhunting past, totemic figures, old photographs,
valuable ancient pottery from all over South East Asia and antique
Korans. The museum also has a Heritage Village. In this village
there are many life-size replicas of the traditional houses of the
many ethnic people of Sabah. 17

4 During the Japanese occupation in World War II many lost their


lives defending Sabah. These brave people’s sacrifices are
remembered at the Petagas War Memorial. The memorial is located
on the exact spot where 176 Sabahan guerillas were massacred on
January 21st, 1944. Beautiful plaques are inscribed with the names
of those who died. Well-kept lawns surround the area. 23

5 A major landmark of Kota Kinabalu is the Sutera Harbour Resort,


Marina and Golf Club. It is located at the south end of the city. The
complex has two 5-star hotels, an international yacht club and an
award winning golf course. 27
