These lightweight Lesding edge devices work together, in coordimtion with the trailing edge flap assemblies, to improve operation of the atrplane ari emble takeoff in minimm distance. B. Each slat is operated by a two-position, cylinder type, hydraulic actuator. An integral part of each actuator ie a locking mechanism which locks the slat in either the fully extented, or the fully retracted position, This action precludes the possibility of the slat being blown ‘open or closed if hydraulic pover fails. Each slat contains e linkage system which operates a hinged fairing assembly mounted on the trailing edge.
