"DEEP" CONCERN

FOR COAL POWER

PLANT
DEVELOPMENT IN
PALAWAN
There are plans to develop a coal
power plant on Palawan "the world's
best island". This can have massive
negative effects on the island. You
are about to see those effects now.

Coal is considered to be
a non-renewable
energy source and a
type of fossil fuel that
emits greenhouse gases
responsible for global
warming.
Coal would also affect fish
sanctuaries and coral reefs in
the area around the proposed
power plant due to thermal
pollution.

Sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides,

particulate matter (PM), and
heavy metals are included in the
air pollution from coal-fired power
plants which lead to smog, acid
rain, toxins in the environment,
and numerous respiratory,
cardiovascular, and
cerebrovascular effects.

The development of power plants with other alternative sources of energy that
can be used such as hydro, solar, and wind energy to avoid the possibility of a
polluted Palawan would be much better options.
