II.HISTORY:
Formerly dubbed as " La Montañosa" by Spanish administrators for its
mountainous terrain, Mountain Province lies in the heart of the Grand Cordillera, known
to be the Philippine's biggest and highest chain of mountains. The province is bounded
on the North by Kalinga, on the south by Benguet and Ifugao, on the east by Isabela,
and on the west by Ilocos Sur and Abra.

Mt. Province's total land area is 2,239.9 square kilometers, 23% of which are classified
as alienable and disposable, and 77% as forest lands. Towering peaks and sharp ridges
describe the central and western parts of the province, while gradually sloping and
rolling foothills are the general features of the eastern towns.

Mt. Province is geo-politically subdivided into 10 municipalities and 144 barangays. As


of May 2010, the total population of Mt. Province is 153,187 and a growth rate of 1.41
from 1990 to 2010. Agriculture is the main source of income with tourism providing a
significant boost to its economy.

We recommend taking the bus from Metro Manila to Baguio and then taking the taxi
from Baguio to Mountain Province, which takes around 9h 28m.

VI. TOURIST DESTINATION

 Rizal Memorial Plaza

 (Bontoc) - found at the heart of the capital town. The statue of Dr.
Jose Rizal stands towering the plaza which serves as a good respite
and also as a playground and meeting venue for programs and other
gathering.

 Bontoc Village Museum

was founded by a Belgian nun whose aim was to preserve the history and
heritage of the indigenous peoples of the Cordillera region particularly that
of the Ifugao people. ... At the back of the museum is a replica of an Ifugao
village with several kind of houses.

 Mainit Hot Springs

is a protected landscape area located in the province of Davao de Oro on


the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. It preserves the sulfuric hot
springs and surrounding forest in Nabunturan municipality which also
contains the headwaters of the Manat River, a source of water supply for
surrounding villages

 Sagada

is a small town in the Mountain Province, Philippines. It is famous for its


beautiful caves, hanging coffins, as well as the serene mountains. It is
located 275 km. north of Manila, 140 km.
 Lake Danum

 is a small lake which is a Kankana-ey word (also is prevalent in Ilocano)


which means water. It is surrounded by pine trees and its scent proliferate
the area making a relaxed atmosphere and one of the best places to camp
at Sagada.

 Chico River

The most extensive river in the Cordillera region, it covers the provinces of
Mountain Province, Kalinga and Cagayan. It is referred to as a "river of
life" for the Kalinga people who live on its banks, and is well known among
development workers because of the Chico River Dam Project, an electric
power generation project which local residents resisted for three decades
before it was finally shelved in the 1980s.
VII. RESTAURANTS (3)

 Log Gobin

Log Cabin has made a name for itself as a favorite among both locals
and tourists in Sagada. This rustic home was transformed into a bar,
restaurant, and then lodge in the 90’s by Dave and Janice Gulian.

 Caja pizza bontoc

Most of the eating places in Bontoc town proper and Illi are located on
the main road, much like the arrangement of restos and cafes in
Sagada. Even if you’re new to the place, it’s fairly easy to spot them,
each one just a short walk, after alighting from the bus or van from
Baguio or Banaue. Thing is, the main avenue can be noisy at certain
times of the day, and if you’re looking for a quiet place to eat, relax,
chill or meet a date, it’s a tricky proposition to find it. Well, good thing
there’s Caja.
VIII. FOODS (with pictures and descriptions)

A, Delicacies (3)
 Pinikpikan

 is a dish from the mountains of the Cordillera region in the


Philippines.. It is prepared by beating a live chicken with a stick
prior to cooking. The beating bruises the chicken's flesh, bringing
blood to its surface, which is said to improve the flavour after
cooking.

 Etag - salt-cured pork

 is the general term used in Cordillera about the native's traditional way
or preserving pork. A slab of a big slice of pork is cured in salt for about
a week (or longer) then air-dried under the sun or smoked for several
weeks (even months), or both.
 Tapey - Philippine rice wine

also spelled tapuey or tapey, is a rice wine produced in the Philippines.


It is a traditional beverage originated from Banaue and the Mountain
Province, where it is used for important occasions such as weddings,
rice harvesting ceremonies, fiestas and cultural fairs.

B. Fruits (3)
 Strawberry

is located in the nearby town of La Trinidad, Benguet, about less


than 10 kms away or 30 minutes travel time from the center of
Baguio. ... They say that this farm has the best sunset view in La
Trinidad Valley. The natural flowing water around the farm is used
to water the strawberries.
 Cacao

is the dried and fully fermented seed of Theobroma cacao, from which cocoa
solids and cocoa butter can be extracted.

 Durian

distinctive for its large size, strong odour, and thorn-covered rind.Sweet
and used for many dessert

C. Pasalubong (3)
 Rice wine and sugar cane of Mountatin Province

farmers produce hectares of rice and corn; tons of vegetables including


potatoes, cabbage, green onions, bell pepper, squash; baskets of fruits
especially citrus and bananas; sacks of legumes; loads of sugarcane
and sacks of coffee beans. Out of these agricultural produce, micro
entrepreneurs make these into by- products including processed jams,
jellies, butter, fruit and rice wines, lemon pies, pickles, noodles, patopat,
linapet, roasted coffee and muscovado sugar.
 Gabay Blueberry Cookies

Gabay Blueberry Cookies, P100.00 (US $2.00) at Ganduyan


Souvenirs. The cookies crumbled easily, which I found surprisingly
nice. Thankfully, the blueberries were not too distractingly huge,
and the cookies themselves were not too sweet.

 Lemon Pie

Lemon Pie, P30.00 (US $0.60) per piece, P220.00 (US $4.40) per pan,
at The Sagada Lemon Pie House. The reputation of this lemon pie
precedes it because everyone said it is great, the best lemon pie
they have tasted. On our last night in Sagada, we changed our
dinner plans to eat this lemon pie. The queue of lemon pie fans was
long, and business was brisk.

XI. FESTIVAL (3) (With pictures and description.)


 Lang-ay Festival

Tribal folks from Paracelis, Mountain Province clad in their colorful ethnic
regalia perform a traditional dance during the 14th Lang-ay festival
celebration in Bontoc, Mountain Province. The Lang-ay festival is a
celebration of merriment, kinship, music, dances and a bountiful harvest
in Mountain Province.
 Begnas Festival

Begnas is a thanksgiving festival of the Maeng tribe. It is a festival where


the people of Tubo enjoy, rest from work and thank Apo Kabunian for a
prosperous year.

 Ayyoweng festival

The Ayyoweng di Lambak ed Tadian festival started with the conduct of


the Anap di Bangan 2019 on February 27, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. and the
opening of the Agro-Industrial Fair on February 28, 2019.The agro-
industrial fair was one of the highlights of the festival aimed at
showcasing the agricultural and industrial products of the municipality.
Also, it is one way of promoting these products to potential buyers.

XII. TRIVIA : Mountain Province covers a total area of 2,157.38 square


kilometres (832.97 sq mi)[17] occupying the central section of the
Cordillera Administrative Region in Luzon. The province is bordered on
the north by Kalinga, south by Ifugao, southwest by Benguet, west by
Ilocos Sur, and northwest by Abra. Situated within the Cordillera Central,
Mountain Province is 83% mountainous while 17% make up hills and
levels. The province has many rivers, waterfalls, mountains, and caves.
The central and western areas of the province are characterized by
rugged mountains and steep cliffs, while the eastern portion has
generally sloping terrain.
