OBJECTIVE:

The objective of this lab to get introduced and familiarized with the Microstrip Antenna and its
Design using software HFSS.

Microstrip Line:
Microstrip is a type of electrical transmission line which can be fabricated using printed circuit board
technology, and is used to convey microwave-frequency signals. It consists of a conducting strip
separated from a ground plane by a dielectric layer known as the substrate.

Where λg is the guided wavelength and λo is the free space wavelength.

Characteristic impedance Zo of microstrip line is related to its width W.
Relation is empirically represented by the synthesis equation.
For W/d < 2

For W/d >=2

W1 is the width of feed line. Feed line is of 50 ohms. So W1 is set by using Zo=50 ohms in
respective equations. W2 is the width of the patch and it is adjusted to set the resonant frequency.
