How My Brother Leon Brought Home A Wife

I. Point out or identify parts of the story:
A. Rising Action
The problem was introduced when Maria was afraid that the father of Leon would
not accept her in the family.
B. Climax
It would have been the part where the three of them arrived at home, and Baldo
was called by his father and he asked about their journey and about Labang, he
also asked a bit about the wife of his brother Leon.
C. Denouement
It is when Baldo left the room of his father to go take care of Labang and talk to
Brother Leon and Maria.

II. How does the story affect you?

A. Relate
The story shows how living in the city and living in the province can be different in
so many ways. Maria and Leon being able to set those aside shows just how
much they love and care for each other, and the two of them being able to adjust
and surpass the trials, like Maria wanting the approval of Leon's father.
B. Reflect
The entire story serves as a test for the wife. Each test was to show whether the
woman could indeed live with strangers all for love. This can be a secondary
theme, but more importantly, the main character learns that though there are
sacrifices it is worth it in the end. The fact that the country is different from the city
can be somewhat daunting the closer they get to the home, but she still manages
to overcome and under come any trials.
C. React
The story’s moral is showing love by overcoming any trials just for that special
person. No matter what it could be, how difficult the problem is, if you really love
someone, you are willing to take risks for that person.
D. Insight
Since the theme of the story is about the journey in life, and how it has a lot of
obstacles and problems that we should be prepared in facing. The lesson of the
story is even though there are a lot of obstacles and problems in life, there is a
possible solution especially when you're with the one you love.
New Yorker In Tondo
I. Point out or identify parts of the story:
A. Rising Action
New Yorker in Tondo is a story of a girl named Kikay who went to New York to
study Hair Culture and Beauty Science. Upon going home after a year, she
acquires all the New Yorkish things like style, language, looks and manner. She
even influenced her mother with her way of living.
B. Climax
When Kikay and Tony had the chance to be alone, Tony was trying to open the
issue of them being engaged before she left but Kikay didn’t want to listen; instead
she keeps on ignoring Tony and even told him that being engaged to him is just a
childish act. She even degraded Tony by telling him, “Imagine a New Yorker
marrying a Tondo boy!” Tony gets irritated of what Kikay acted, so he confronts
her, reprimands her and tell her that New York didn’t bring her any good.
C. Denouement
Kikay realizes everything that Tony said. She asks for forgiveness and promises
him that she will go back to her original self. She even said that Francesca is dead
and who’s standing in front of him is Kikay. Tony forgave her and they went back
to each other’s arms.

III. How does the story affect you?

A. Relate
We sometimes isolate ourselves from others in terms of being able to attain things
that we have long yearned for. We feel honored to be able to achieve a “certain”
thing in life. That why we see ourselves who out stand among others. But, there
are times that we think so much high of our self-esteem, resulting to such horrible
things that we treat to others. It because when we think high of ourselves,
alongside it, we also think low to others. That’s why we often judge them, not even
realizing their emotions. That’s why in the end, there are some who feel guilty for
the things that they have done to others, we tend to regret in the end. That’s why
it is important to just live life as a normal one, even though you have achieve lots
of things in life. There’s no need to boast. Just know to understand others.
B. Reflect
This story is a script from a play, well this play isn’t just an ordinary one, it’s
extraordinary. Because it evokes a deep serious message in life. I really love the
script, because it helps some readers to realize their mistakes that they have done
in their lives, due to the much self-esteem. And, I’m one of those kind of people,
but not all the times. But, after I have finished reading this, I have come to a
realization that, I was wrong, and I feel guilty about it. That’s why I want to settle
things with specific persons in my life, especially to those who means special to
me. Overall, I love how to story was being told, and as for the author, keep up the
good work.
C. React
The play implicates how can be a person change in the way she interact and react
to an environment she was brought up from the new ones where many external
factors will affect and influence her.
D. Insight
The moral lesson is to never forget who you are, always have a sense of self or it
is easy to lose yourself and who you are. When Kikay moved to New York she
got so accustom to the lifestyle that when she went back home to Tondo and even
her friends didn't know who she was.
