Florence Nightingale was an English nurse in the nineteenth
century. While Florence was a young woman, she travelled a lot
in Europe with her family. Before she became a nurse she made
friends with some powerful and influential people. During the
Crimean War, Florence travelled to Turkey to take care of the
soldiers. After she arrived, she wrote about the terrible
conditions, in which the soldiers were being cared for. At first,
Florence believed that the soldiers were overworked, but after
some time she decided that the unhygienic conditions in the
hospitals were the reason why so many men were dying there.
Later in her career, Florence did a lot to reduce deaths in the
army.
