The 3rd Dimension of Time-Management.

Conventional wisdom on time-management techniques has lead people to consider two factors when
deciding how to best handle the tasks they’ve got to complete: urgency and importance. But there exists
a third factor that is an important consideration beside these aforementioned criterion—significance.

“If urgency is how soon something will matter, and importance is how much something matters, then
significance is how long something matters.”

The way of finding more time to do things is figuring out what must be done immediately vs what can
wait. It’s about finding such a balance that you don’t have to add or take away any more to do exactly
what you need to do in better time-frames.

Provided below is an algorithm that can help with these sorts of decisions.

1. First seek to see that your task is even necessary.

2. Take the time to see whether you can turn this task into a “set and forget”
3. Can you get someone else to do it? Train them if they are willing.
4. The immediacy of the task dictates its completion. If it doesn’t need to be done, run through the
algorithm again until you find that you can handle the task through other means that were
previously not possible.
