HISTORIC .

Jokowi became the 7th President of Indonesia in

2014. He is the only president to not come from a
military or political background. Before he was
president, he served as mayor of Surakarta for 7
years from 2005 to 2012, before he became the
governor of Jakarta from 2012 to 2014.

His win also represented a shift in voters' thinking, to

favor a new type of leadership.
 His father was a
carpenter and
Jokowi
continued the
tradition by
earning a
degree in
Forestry from
Indonesian
University,
Gadjah Mada.
