Purpose
To provide studies in linguistic rhetoric, legal analysis and exploring transitions into legal
propositions.
Unit-I
Text grammar or discourse grammar – Rhetoric - Stylistics – International Sociolinguistics –
Pragmatics – speech act theory – Conversation analysis - Applied linguistics - Variation linguistics –
Critical Discourse analysis.
Unit-II
The various levels or dimensions of discourse such as sounds (intonation etc.,) gestures, syntax,
meanings speech acts, moves, strategies, turns, interaction.
Unit-III
Genres of discourse: (the types of discourse in politics, the media, education, science, business, etc.,)
Unit-IV
The relations between text (discourse) and context
The relations between discourse and power
Unit-V
The relations between discourse and interaction
