PRICE SITUATION IN RAJASTHAN FOR THE MONTH OF

APRIL, 2016
The Directorate of Economics & Statistics has been releasing monthly Wholesale Price
Indices with base year 1999-2000=100. Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers of
Jaipur, Ajmer and Bhilwara centres are compiled every month by Labour Bureau, Shimla,
with base year 2001=100. Retail Prices of 33 essential commodities are also being collected
from 33 District Headquarters, analyzed the trends on a weekly basis and averaged to get
the monthly retail prices.

1. Wholesale Price Index (Base Year 1999-2000=100)

The General Index of Wholesale Price during APRIL, 2016 stood at 275.85 which was
271.04 in MARCH, 2016, showing an increase of 1.77 percent over preceding month,
which is mainly due to increase in the index of Primary Articles by 3.25 percent, Fuel,
Power, Light & Lubricants group by 1.22 percent and Manufactured Products group by
0.83 percent. The details are given in Table No.-1. of this report. The month wise trends
are reflected in the diagrams given below:

(I) Primary Articles Group (Weight 33.894)

The index of Primary Articles group during APRIL, 2016 stood at 292.64 which was 283.43 in
MARCH, 2016, showing an increase of 3.25 percent over preceding month, which is mainly
due to increase in the index of Agricultural Articles sub-group by 4.11 percent while the Index
of Minerals sub-group decreased by 3.21 percent during the month under review.

(A) Agricultural Articles: The index of Agricultural Articles sub-group stood at 294.56 in
APRIL, 2016, whereas it was 282.92 in MARCH, 2016, showing an increase of 4.11 percent
over the previous month. This is mainly due to increase in the Index of the Food Articles
subgroup by 2.73 percent and the Non-Food Articles sub-group by 6.97 percent. In the Food
Articles subgroup, the index of Cereals increased by 2.03 percent, Pulses by 8.08 percent,
Fruits & Vegetables by 9.60 percent, Milk by 1.21 percent, Eggs, Meat & Fish group by 0.02
percent and Condiments & Spices by 2.77 percent but Other Food Articles sub group
decreased by 0.45 percent over the previous month. The Index of Non-Food Articles Sub-
Group of Agricultural Articles increased by 6.97 percent. This is mainly due to increase in
the index of sub-group of Fibers by 1.91 percent, Oil-seed by 8.86 percent and Other non-
food items by 3.68 percent during the month under review. (Total 10 sub-Groups)

(B) Minerals: The index of Minerals sub-group stood at 278.11 in APRIL, 2016 which was
287.34 in MARCH, 2016 registering a decrease of 3.21 percent over the previous month.
This is mainly due to decrease in the Index of Lead concentrate sub-group by 6.60
percent, Lime Stone by 5.39 percent, Zinc Concentrate by 1.67 percent and Building Stone
by 5.46 percent. The Index of Silver sub-group increased by 3.92 percent. The Index of
other six items i.e. Copper ore, Gypsum, Phosphorite, Steatite (soap stone), Lime stone
(burn) and Brick earth (Bricks) subgroup remains unchanged during the month under
review. (Total 11 sub-Groups)
(II) Fuel, Power, Light & Lubricants' group: (weight 16.253) The index of ‘Fuel, Power,
Light and Lubricants’ group increased by 1.22 percent during APRIL, 2016 is stood at
374.69, which was 370.16 in MARCH, 2016. This is mainly due to an increase in the index
of ‘Petrol, Diesel & L P Gas’ sub-group by 2.29 percent. The index of Coal and Electricity
sub-group remains unchanged during the month under review. (Total 03 sub-Groups)
(III) Manufactured Products Group: (weight 49.853) The index of Manufactured
Products group stood 232.21 during APRIL, 2016 which was 230.29 in MARCH, 2016
showing an increase of 0.83 percent over the previous month. It is mainly due to an
increase in the index of Food Product by 0.94 percent, Chemical by 0.02 percent, Non-
Metalic & Mineral products by 2.61 percent, Basic Precious & Ferrous Matels by 0.02
percent, General Purpose Machinery by 0.26 percent and Motor Vehicles by 0.35 percent.
The index of other four sub-group i.e. Beverage & Tobacco, Spinning Weaving & Finishing
Products, Wood & Wood products and Publishing remained unchanged during the month
under review. (Total 10 sub-Groups). The details are given in Table No-2 of this report.

2. Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (Base Year 2001=100)

The Labour Bureau, Shimla is compiling and releasing the Consumer Price Index for
Industrial Workers at Ajmer, Bhilwara and Jaipur centres of the State. At the Ajmer,
Bhilwara and Jaipur centres, the index for the month of MARCH, 2016 stood at 250, 262
and 250 respectively, which were 249, 261 and 249 in FEBRUARY, 2016. The Index of Ajmer
centre was increased by 01 point, Bhilwara centre was 01 point and Jaipur center by 01
point was recorded over the previous month. The consumer price index (I.W.) in MARCH,
2016 registered an increase of 1.21 percent at Ajmer centre 1.95 percent at Bhilwara centre
and 3.31 percent at Jaipur centre as compared to the corresponding month of last year.
All India General Consumer Price index for the month of MARCH, 2016, stood at 268, which
was 267 in FEBRUARY, 2016. It registered an increase of 01 point over the previous month
and an increase of 5.51 percent over the corresponding month of last year. The details are
given in Table No-3 of this report.
3. Retail Prices
Retail prices of 33 essential commodities are being collected on a weekly basis from 33
District Headquarters. The prices of 24 commodities have increased and 7 commodities have
decreased whereas two commodities have recorded no change during the month of APRIL,
2016 over the previous month. The prices of Barley increased by 1.80 percent, Gram by 5.62
percent, Bajra by 2.92 percent, Jowar by 0.20 percent, Maize by 0.81 percent, Moong Dal
(without husk) by 1.31 percent, Urad dal (without husk) by 9.32 percent, Arhar dal by 3.74
percent, Gram dal by 7.58 percent, Groundnut oil by 3.04 percent, Mustard oil by 0.90
percent, Til oil by 1.00 percent, Rapeseed oil by 1.81 percent, Vanaspati ghee by 1.27
percent, Ghee desi by 0.35 percent, Chilli-dry (whole) by 3.05 percent, Gur by 5.33 percent,
Sugar by 8.74 percent, Milk (buff.) by 0.52 percent, Potato by 12.32 percent, Firewood by
0.05 percent, Cigarette by 0.85 percent, Biri by 1.88 percent and LPG (Cooking-Gas) by 0.01
percent during the month under review over preceding month.

The prices of Wheat decreased by 1.00 percent, Rice (sela) by 0.18 percent, Egg (hen) by 0.59
percent, Goat-meat by 0.19 percent, Onion by 7.43 percent, Toilet soap by 0.13 percent and
Tea (Leaf) by 0.35 percent during the month under review over the preceding month. The
prices of rest two items Kerosene oil (ration) and Washing soap remain unchanged during
the month under review. The details are given in Table No-4 of this report.
