Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 10

I. Objective
At the end of the lesson, the students shall be able to:

A. Compare the relative wavelengths of different forms of electromagnetic waves. S10FE-IIab-b-47

II. Subject Matter

A. ELECTROMAGNETIC SPECTRUM

B. Materials:
Teacher: Teacher’s guide P. 118-121
Students’: Learner’s guide p. 145-149

III. Procedures
A. Routine Matters
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Attendance

B. Review
- Use a slinky in reviewing the two types of waves mechanical and electromagnetic.
- Review also the parts of a wave, visible light and the rainbow colors.

C. Motivation
Did you send text messages to somebody today? Or have you ever tried cooking in a
microwave oven? Did you know that these previously mentioned human activities make
use of microwaves? Microwaves carry energy, and so with the other kinds of
electromagnetic waves. But what are electromagnetic waves? How can these waves
become useful to us?

D. Presentation of the topic

Our lesson for today is all about “Electromagnetic Spectrum”.

E. Lesson Proper

Answers to these questions should be solicited from the students:

1. How do we arrange the regions from left to right? - radio waves, microwaves,
infrared waves, visible light, ultraviolet, x-ray & gamma ray
2. Which EM wave has the shortest wavelength? Longest wavelength? – gamma ray,
radio waves
3. Which EM wave has the smallest frequency? highest frequency? radio waves,
gamma ray
4. Which EM wave has the lowest energy? Greatest energy? radio waves, gamma
ray
5. What is the relationship between energy and frequency? Directly proportional

- Electromagnetic waves are everywhere. Give examples by which waves can be

beneficial or harmful.

Wrap-Up Statement

1. Electromagnetic spectrum is a chart showing the different electromagnetic waves. There are
seven regions in the EM spectrum. These are radio waves, microwaves, infrared waves, visible
light, ultraviolet, x-ray & gamma ray. As you go from left to right of the spectrum, wavelength
decreases and frequency increases as well as energy. The opposite happens as you go from right
to left.
IV. Assessment
Write the names of the electromagnetic waves by their wavelengths (smallest to largest).
They are shown below, but they are not in any order.
X-ray, Infrared, Visible Light, Microwave, Gamma Ray, Ultraviolet, Radio wave

V. Assignment

Create a leaflet explaining what the dangers of microwaves in mobile phones could be.
