1.) Identify a monument/important structure/street/building, etc. Choose only one.

Rizal Monument

2.) Take a selfie with the chosen item. Narrate the importance of the item in terms of
European/Philippine history.

Rizal was our national hero who fought for the Philippines against the Europeans. He used
his intellect and wise decision makings to reach his goals. Rizal wrote a ton of great novels that
were used to open the eyes of his fellow countrymen, he wanted to let his people know what are
the things in his country was happening, all the oppression and discrimination was needed to be
stopped.

3.) Reflection why you chose this and its importance to nationbuilding

I chose this because not only was it interesting but also the structure itself was great and
the atmosphere was quiet and calm, the place was really nice because while I was learning about
history, I also felt very relaxed. Rizal was also really an inspiring man. A wise man once said
“mighty is the hand that knows when to use the pen, and when to use the sword”. His acts were
splendid, they were rational and smart. He knew that with a battle of strength, the Philippines
will never win and so he used his pen.

Its importance to nation building is that, as Filipinos, we are unified by the pride for our
common identity, cultural heritage, and natural patrimony, connected with our sense of
nationalism.
