Oppression involves the practice of tyranny by a ruling group. However, it creates inequality in
other circumstances as well. People are not always oppressed by tyrants with wrong
intentions. In many cases, a liberal moral society can place system-wide constraints on people
to limit their freedom. It can be the outcome of policies that cause fixed norms and habits and
symbols. These rules set by society can become a restrictive structure of forces and limitations
that immobilize and reduce people into divisions. It has the power to make people feel less
human by denying them their rights and opportunities. Oppression can be classified into four
types, namely violence, marginalization, exploitation, and cultural imperialism.
